Thursday Anime

NISA just announced they licensed Nagi no Asukara. So after a bit of a dry spell that is two series I want to buy from them, this and Eccentric Family.

Well Eccentric Family is a definite, Nagi no Asukara still depends on its second half. But I have to say I really enjoyed its first half.

Even more surprisingly it turned out to be my favorite Thursday show and yet before the season started it wasn't even on my watch list. I only started to watch it after reading some posts about it on message boards and blogs.

I am still weary that it will disappoint me. I mean I have never fully loved a Mari Okada series (and some I really dislike). The closest was Ano Hana which I did like but I thought the ending was a bit over the top with the crying.

The crying is a bit over the top in Nagi no Asukara too but so far it doesn't bother me so much. There are a lot of love triangles which worried me in the start but so far they have been handled well. That's not to say the series doesn't have flaws but it has some great character development in my opinion and well there is the PA works scenery porn (in this case an underwater village and a sea port town).

So going in I had low expectations that were exceeded but will the 2nd half of the series meet my high expectations set by the first half. That is the big question mark.

As for other Thursday shows: Kill La Kill is enjoyable and a fun watch but it's no Gurren Lagann and that's really explains my feelings quite well. I still plan to watch till the end. At the very least I do adore Mako lol.

Samurai Flamenco I was really loving at first but when it shifted its tone I started to lose interest. With new shows being added on next season I might not even continue with this one after the first cour is finished.

samurai flamenco, eccentric family, nagi no asukara, kill la kill, nisa
