Intriguing! There's some there I've been wanting to see, including The Count of Monte Cristo and the subbed Ghost Hunt. (I won't touch the dub of the latter; isn't that the one that turned the dub version into a pop culture thing?) And I've meant to watch more Ouran, LOL.
Ugh, the Samurai X dub. I think I was told it's a cut version? I didn't know the voices were different, though. Dang. I like the original dub cast.
Oh no I think you are thinking of Ghost Stories. Ghost Hunt is something different and the dub was actually pretty good in my opinion (if you do watch it the first 3 episodes are sort of weak but it gets much better). :)

I never even realized there was another dub for it, it seems pointless since the original dub was pretty good.
I think it may be the same company that dubbed Nodame Cantabile since they are up on the same youtube channel. But since I am pretty sure Nodame Cantabile is not licensed here I think it might be the dub from Animax Asia/Singapore.
Oops! Yeah, I'm always getting those two mixed up, LOL.
That could be. The only other Singaporian (I think?) dub I'm familiar with is the one for Winx Club. I ... honestly didn't like it much, either. XD; 4Kids may pull a lot of annoying stunts, but I think their voice actors are just fine and have a lot of talent. I always think of their voice actors when I think of Winx; the Singaporian ones just sounded kind of flat.
Ha HA Yeah there is also Ghost Hound another anime with Ghost in its title. It does get confusing after awhile. XD
I don't like 4-Kids at all but partially its because of what they did to One Piece. Luckily I wasn't really into any of the series they dubbed except One Piece.
And yeah I have not heard very good things about the dubs from Singapore but I have not really listened to them myself to be a fair judge.
I wondered if you would say that. ;) I don't think the things I found off-the-wall would be different no matter who had it. Mainly it's the crazy fruit that gives weird abilities that weirds me out. LOL. And Buggy the Clown. He creeps me out so bad. And honestly, the fact that Luffy wants to be a pirate but doesn't act like one makes me raise an eyebrow. He and his crew act more like good-natured adventurers, with only the enemies they encounter acting like real pirates. Then again, I guess "good-natured adventurers" is kind of how the pirate life has been glorified in the media.... Or at least the adventurers part, LOL.
Buggy is awesome (and I hate clowns) but he is only a minor character.
Yes it's weird (but so are a lot of anime premises lol) but the characters are great, it has an epic plot, it is like being on a grand adventure, and its totally focused on friendship.
And no they don't act like pirates more like a ragtag team of misfits. But I don't think that matters Luffy has his own idea what it means to be a pirate. He's in it for the adventure & accomplishing your dreams not for the pirating. XD
Oh well its a super long series at this point so its quite a commitment but it is a great series which if anything has gotten better as it went on (the opposite of most other long running shounen series).
The friendship definitely is awesome. If there was one thing that could make me pick up the series again, it would be that. :) And having well-rounded characters certainly doesn't hurt, either.
Yeah, LOL, I was in Borders yesterday and saw the 54 manga volumes and wondered for the umpteenth time if they'll ever make it to the Grand Line and their treasure.
I normally hate never ending series but there is something about One Piece that I just can't stop reading it. Probably because I love the characters so much (and I love how much they love each other).
And there is a lot more to the series than just getting to the Grand Line and finding the treasure. Although that is the ultimate goal there are a lot of trials and setbacks that they will have to face before reaching the goal. And not to mention I have a feeling the treasure is metaphorical anyways. The journey is more important. :)
Whoops, remembered something....insaneladybugJuly 16 2010, 15:15:05 UTC
Oops, what am I saying? LOL. I do know one other Singaporian dub, for Yu-Gi-Oh! It was one of the most frightening things I have ever tried to watch. XD;

One Piece I only watched pretty much when nothing else was on, LOL. It was a little too off-the-wall for me. That said, I liked the Captain Kuro arc.
