Summer Anime 2010

So are there any good new anime series at all this season?

I just finished watching all the anime from the spring season and I highly recommend Saraiya Goyou but now I have nothing to watch. Mind you I don't want to follow many series but one or two would be nice ( Read more... )

So far this season I've only watched Kuroshitsuji II, High School of the Dead, and Shiki. The first is absurdly bad (and incapable of being anything but), the second is what it is (I don't really plan to watch any more of it, though), and the third is actually pretty good although the real plot hasn't quite been revealed yet and everyone in it has bizarre hair. I didn't actually realize at first that Shiki was noitaminA, actually. It looks like it's going to end up as fairly straightforward horror, though.

I'm giving Occult Academy a shot, too, although the last Anime no Chikara show disappointed me heavily (it sounded so good, but in execution was so incredibly dull)... And, as someone who is obsessed with anything related to fairy tales, I feel some kind of misguided obligation to watch Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi though I expect I will regret it.

Let me know how Tatami Galaxy is... I've been thinking about watching that one as well. Somehow I missed its existence altogether last season, but it looks interesting.

I have been hearing good things about Occult Academy so maybe if I continue to hear good things I will give that one a try.

I have watched 3 episodes of Tatami Galaxy and so far so good. The dialog takes a bit getting used to (because it's so fast) but the visuals are very impressive and so far I think the narrative is easier to get into than other Masaaki Yuasa works (although I did enjoy Kaiba). Each episode is a bit repetitive but that is done on purpose to reinforce the themes. It's basically Endless Eight done right. :)

I have now watched Occult Academy and it's better than I was expecting. It has a pretty weird sense of humor, but it was a lot of fun and I really look forward to seeing where they go with it. Waaaay better than Senkou no Night Raid, that's for sure (ugh). I'd recommend it!

That might be the one series I watch this season, thanks :)

You might want to try Shiki since its written by Ghost Hunt and 12 Kingdoms author Ono Fuyumi. Pretty good first epi.

Yeah so far everyone seems obsessed with HOTD which I thought was okay but I wasnt 100% impressed with it, mostly its guys and the fanservice.

Havent found that summer gem yet either.

See I am on the fence about Shiki because I've been reading comments from people who read the manga/novels and they have not been so impressive. But I do love Fuyumi Ono.

I guess there might be a season where nothing good comes out. Might be a good time to catch up on older series.

Not a manga/novel reader so I dont know but I remember not being that impressed with the first few epis of GH either XDD I do remember reading somewhere that the being of the Shiki novel or manga was slow. Considering its Ono-sensei I cant drop it XD

Also Tagami Galaxy was the other noitanimA anime from spring right? I remember watching epi 1 and though liking it the dialogue and visuals were so fast I actually couldnt follow along with what was going on. I remember thinking it was like Zetsubou Sensei on crack! But I followed the thread on AS and everyone seemed to love the series epsc the end.

I have to admit I didn't like the first episode of Ghost Hunt either and dropped the series when it first came out but then watched it again when Funi licensed it because I heard good things about it. Sometimes you can't judge a series by its first episode. I might give Shiki a chance but I think I might wait a bit.

I think the important thing about Tatami Galaxy is you don't necessarily need to catch all the dialog to understand what is going on. :)

I couldn't get into Highschool of the Dead at first but last weekend I kind of blew through 20 chapters in 2 days. >_>;; I really love zombie movies/stories/games in general (huge Resident Evil fan :D), so I'm kind of trying to overlook the fanservice in order to get my zombie apocalypse kick. But it really feels like a hit-or-miss kind of series

I'm not sure about the new season, but a short one I enjoyed from a few seasons ago was Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. I haven't been keeping up with a whole lot of other recent stuff. ^^;

Also, since you really like FMA, I'd recommend giving Pumpkin Scissors a shot. The short description I usually give is "FMA without the alchemy" (although that's a very loose comparison). It's about a unit dedicated to war relief in a post-war European-ish setting. There's military conspiracy hijinks and the like, and Alice (the female lead) is one of my favorite characters in all of anime. ^^;

ALSO, seconding Shiki for yamikakyuu! Well, seconding what I've read so far - I'm only 2-3 chapters in. ^^:

I have to admit I am not big on Zombie Apocalypse stories but it's mainly the fanservice that really turns me off. I know a lot of people are enjoying this series though so you are in good company. XD

Thanks for the recommendations. I might give Shiki a try after all. :)

I just got through the first episode of HotD and maybe it's because it was easier to overlook in the manga but it feels like the fanservice was really ramped up for the anime. >_>;; WHY DO GUYS FIND UNDERPANTS SO INTERESTING?

I think Saraiya Goyou was very good so yes I recommend picking it up again. It's intelligent with subtle character interaction and development. I am liking Tatami Galaxy a lot so far too.

I think I might pick up Occult Academy because I am hearing good things about it from a lot of people. I am on the fence about Shiki. I do like the original author but not the character designs and the plot I am kind of so so on. I will probably wait and see what people think after a few more episodes and then decide if I will pick it up.

The only thing I'm watching is not an anime, but the live action Moyashimon drama (and hey, it's subbed, the stream is free and legal; I say why not). And out of curiosity I checked out HftD manga and sadly it was everything I expected from the few images I'd seen of it before. >_>

I think HFTD is the type of series that appeals to a lot of people but just not me.

I saw the promo for the live action Moyashimon. The microbes look adorable as they should. XD
