Skellig

I've been meaning to read this for awhile since I knew John Simm was going to be in the movie adaption. I guess all the Life on Mars stuff that has been happening recently finally got me to get off my butt and get the book. So I went to the library early today checked it out and started reading it this morning, finishing it up just now. I really had no idea what to expect but wow what an absolutely beautiful story. I am not even really sure if I can put it into words but I dare anyone to read this and not be moved.

I am really excited about the movie now although I don't think the movie will ever be able to capture the beautiful and powerful imagery and symbolism the book leaves you with I am hoping for as close to the book as possible. At the very least it has an excellent cast: Tim Roth, Kelly MacDonald, and of course John Simm. And I realize that John Simm will be perfect for this role because not only can he do emotional scenes like no other he must identify with the character because he also has a son and baby daughter (although he isn't chubby like the dad in the book). Okay I am excited to see this and that is an understatement. I am not sure how the child actors will do but the UK seems to know how to cast children so I will have faith.

But really I highly recommend the book it's called Skellig by David Almond. And it looks like another book that I took out of the library that I will just end up buying in the end.

Speaking of John Simm I also obtained Tuesday so I will watch that soon and I got my Life on Mars DVDs. I just put in one to check if they will play and it played beautifully so now I am going to watch the football episode from series 1 and fold laundry. I am so excited to finally own Life on Mars on DVD (this also means that I will be able to get other UK series/movies on DVD like Crime & Punishment) :)
