What the hell is with Funimation and their obsession with bad Gonzo titles? The worst offense seems to be their license of Dragonaut (which I hope was part of a package deal). There are lot of titles that are licensed that I consider pretty mediocre but other people seem to enjoy them so what can I say. But with Dragonaut, everyone is going on about just how bad it is. It's pretty amusing to see so much hate for a series. And this is the title Funimation licenses. Funimation I usually really like you, but come on.
And a license of the 2nd season of Saiunkoku would have worked much better for Valentines Day. Or what about Mononoke that's an actual good series. Although maybe I should thank Funimation because they are saving me money.
Speaking of Saiunkoku I finally finished the 2nd season today. For awhile I was afraid I would never finish it because the fansubs just stopped. But C1 truly delivered and the last couple weeks they have been getting the episodes out in record speed.
As for the ending well it wasn't great but satisfying (considering it ends when you know there is more story left). However the last story arc was excellent. The arc ended up being one of the best for Saiunkoku great new characters, character development for old characters (especially Ran Shuuei and Ryuuki, I always loved their relationship but now I love it even more) and the story leaves you wanting more, so hopefully there will be a 3rd season when there is enough novel material.
I also loved the last moment with Ryuuki/Shuurei, it was sweet and playful. And while Saiunkoku doesn;t have the best animation it still has pretty shots like this
Yeah there is just something about romantic scenes with characters in silhouettes that I really love. It's a simple effect but it just works.
Also related to Saiunkoku there is this new
art book that I really want. It has illustrations from the novel (which are so much nicer than the anime designs) but it's so expensive and so much stuff is coming out in March. I just hope it doesn't sell out and I can buy it maybe a little later. Art books don't usually sell out right?
