where so many other Shounen Series Fail?
Sorry for the double post guys I just had this on my mind and wanted to post about it.
Now first of all I can't say that One Piece is my favorite shounen series. That honor goes to Fullmetal Alchemist (Rurouni Kenshin is also high up there). Incidentally I consider Luffy, Edward and Kenshin to be my top 3 favorite shounen male leads.
Anyways back to One Piece where so many long shounen series you keep asking yourself when are they going to end I never felt this way with One Piece. I just read chapter 523 and I was entertained as ever (when I was reading 523 of Inuyasha I was praying that the series would end). The important thing about One Piece is it's not about the ending but about the journey. Yeah we know the mysterious "One Piece" and Luffy becoming King of the Pirates is the ultimate goal. But when I read One Piece I barely ever think of these things I just sit back and enjoy myself. Thus it can probably go on for an infinite amount of time and I don't care because I am having fun.
One constant criticism I see against One Piece is it's too silly and not dramatic enough (there are no character deaths OH NOES). But my counter to that is yes One Piece is overall light hearted but the times when it is a bit more dramatic (when we learn about a character's past for instance) those moments especially hit you because they don't happen often. One Piece might be fun most of the time but seriously there are very few series that have moved me as much. So as far as dramatic moments with One Piece it's all about the quality not the quantity.
