Lupo/Lupacchiotto is Italian for wolf /little wolf.

They were standing around; trying to figure out what to do next, when Wolfgang noticed his youngest had wandered off with his best friend’s youngest. “Where’s Didi and Tino?”

“They’re over there, Vati,” Bernd said.

Luigi laughed. “They’re over by the Tunnel of Love.”

“Oh.” Wolfgang frowned. He looked over in time to see the boys get on line for the ride. “What are they doing?” he said softly to himself. “Get over here, you two!” he shouted as he made his way over to them followed by the rest of the group. “Didi! Tino!” Wolfgang muttered to himself in German about this being a bad idea and why did he let Luigi talk him into taking everyone to the local amusement park.

Oblivious to his father’s cries, Didi stood in line with Tino, sniggering about all the kissing Tino said would be going on inside the ride. Despite all the times he had seen Bernd steal a kiss or two from Amber or her twin James, the thought of a bunch of adults doing the same thing on a darkened boat ride, was extremely funny.

Tino giggled as they moved forward. It would not be long, before they were on one of those stupid swan boats, watching a bunch of adults slobber all over each other. Hearing his name, he looked around. “Did you hear that?”

“Hear what?”

Tino shrugged. “Nothing…” He made a face and scratched his cheek. Shrugging he smiled and said, “I thought I heard Vati calling us.”

“Oh…”

“Anyways… It’s our turn! Let’s go!”

“Yeah!” Didi grinned and followed Tino onto the boat. He sat down, exchanging a look with him as their boat started to move. He had a feeling this was going to be even more fun than Tino said it would be.

“Awe… Isn’t that cute?” Luigi gushed.

“Seriously? How many times did we tell them not to wander off?” Wolfgang glared at his best friend.

“Let’s go!” Luigi said, ignoring Wolfgang’s statement. Grabbing his friend’s arm, he winked at him as propelled Wolfgang forward onto the line.

“Let go of me!”

“Come, they were last on line, so we should be able to see them.” Luigi sighed. “Think they’ll kiss? I was Tino’s age when I first kissed a girl; Cesare’s when I first kissed a boy.”

“Not helping, Lou.” Wolfgang reluctantly stepped onto the swan boat and sat down.

Luigi sat down next to him. “Hey, kids! We’ll meet you at the end!” he called out.

They older children stopped in their tracks at the head of the line.

“Damn it!” Cesare swore. A line had formed behind them, now that the nearby roller coaster had let out a load of passengers.

“Now what?” James said.

“There’s a bunch of people behind us and the guy’s motioning for us to move forward,” Bernd said helpfully.

Amber looked over her shoulder. Groaning softly, she said, “Let’s just go.” She shoved her twin forward.

“Hey!” James shot her a look and Amber glared right back at him.

“Hey, Amber?” Bernd said.

She sighed. “What?”

“Can I ride with you?” Bernd gave her his best cute and adorable look. Ever since they had been experimenting as young teens often did, he developed a huge crush on her. The trouble was he had an equally big one on her twin brother and it was hard to ignore James’ look of disappointment. Thankfully Cesare’s decision to follow the adults onto the ride, prompted James to jump in the boat with him.

Amber let out a long suffering sigh as Bernd had been trying to get her alone on a ride the entire time they were there. “If you must, but if you try anything, I swear I’ll throw you overboard and drown you.”

Bernd grinned. “Okay! I promise I won’t!” He eagerly climbed into the swan boat with her.

Minutes later, she and Bernd were sitting in the swan boat behind her twin and Cesare as they floated down the course. Amber noticed that he was sitting as far away from her as was humanly possible on the tiny boat. She had a feeling this was going to be a boat ride to remember. She wondered, if once he calmed down, Vati was going to kiss Uncle Luigi.

“If they start kissing, I’m going to kill him!” Cesare said.

“Why?” James said. “It’s not like they’ve never kissed before? Didn’t you tell us that you saw them go in the bedroom and heard ‘noises’ a few minutes later?”

“Not them, you idiot! Tino and Didi!” Cesare huffed.

“Oh.”

Cesare nodded and grumbled to himself in Italian, He glared at James, who put his arm around him.

“Just relax, Che, okay?”

“Whatever.”

Up ahead, Wolfgang strained to see what the boys were doing in the boat in front of them, but it was hard to make anything out as the lighting was rather dim to encourage couples to kiss. He was tempted to stand up, but a firm grip on his wrist kept him seated. “Do you mind?”

“Wolfie my lupacchiotto,” Luigi said, “Sit down before you tip us over.” He turned and looked behind him. He waved. “James and Che are behind us.”

“Hunh?” Wolfgang rubbed tiredly at the headache forming behind his left temple.

“James and Che are behind us and I bet Bernd and Amber are behind them,” Luigi chuckled. “I guess when you told them to meet us at the end of the ride they took it to mean coming along for the ride.” He grinned.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“I know and since there’s nothing we can do about it, let’s just sit back and enjoy the ride.”

Wolfgang huffed and folded his arms as he leaned back. He shook his head and frowned when Luigi patted his knee. He opened his mouth to tell him to stop it, when his friend leaned in and kissed him just as they floated into a darkened area. To make matters worse, not that kissing his friend was bad, but the combination of childish giggling in front of them and wordless sputtering behind soured his mood and spoiled whatever Luigi had in mind.

“Relax, my little wolf,” Luigi purred against his lips.

Wolfgang pulled away. “I can’t.”

“Look, they can’t do anything other than kiss in here.” Luigi grinned. “I should know as Donna and I, you remember her, right?”

“The blonde with the big chest and small IQ?”

Luigi laughed. “Yeah… Anyway, we tried to ummm…” He waggled his eyebrows.

“Not helping, Lou…”

“They’re kids, Wolfie, and if they steal a kiss or two, so what?”

He nodded as his friend was right. Still, that did not negate the fact that they had wandered off without telling anyone. It was just that deep down, Wolfgang took that as sign that his kids were growing up, and it made him feel old. He did not like feeling that way at all.

Didi felt his cheeks heating up when he realized Tino was holding his hand. He looked down at their hands and back up at his friend. Tino was looking shyly back at him and Didi wondered what he should do when he leaned towards him to kiss him. Didi closed his eyes, letting out a nervous giggle when their boat gently hit the one in front as they queued up to eventually disembark. Just as he leaned in to kiss Tino-

“Boys!” Wolfgang could not help calling out as they bumped into them.

“Carry on!” Luigi said. “Don’t let Vati disturb you!” He chuckled.

Tino and Didi scooted apart. Embarrassed, they sank down as much as they could in their swan boat. When they reached the disembarking area they quickly got out and waited for everyone.

“Boys! What did I tell you-” Wolfgang began.

“Hey! You two were told not to wander off, right?” Luigi said. “You not only upset Vati, but made us all pile onto this silly ride.”

“Sorry, Onkel Luigi, Vati,” Didi said.

“I’m sorry too.” Tino added. “We just forgot to tell you.”

Didi nodded. “That ride looked like fun and we thought we’d be back by the time you figured out what to do…” he trailed off at the look on his father’s face.

Luigi nodded. “Just don’t do it again, okay? Or else I might have to do something you boys won’t like.” He gave them his best stern look.

Wolfgang heaved a long suffering sigh. “Lou, everyone knows you’d die before you’d do anything to hurt anyone.”

“Yeah?” Luigi put a hand on his chest, while pretending to be shocked at his friend’s revelation.

Wolfgang nodded.

“Alright, where do we go next?”

Several suggestions were shouted at once.

Luigi picked one. As if the Tunnel of Love was not enough water, they found themselves heading towards a log flume ride. Along the way, they passed a kiddie boat ride, that Luigi made a joke about riding. Everyone groaned, except Bernd, who thought it would be hilarious if they rode it. And with that, the events surrounding the Tunnel of Love were mostly forgotten and everyone stuck together and a great time was had by all.
