Soaring Eagle crawled out of his tent into the winter wonderland. It had snowed heavily last night and he was glad the snow was light and fluffy and easy to dig out. His dog Honey, a buff colored bitch, poked her head out, before joining him outside. The dog looked up at him and Soaring Eagle nodded.

Honey followed at his heels as the pair made their way through the newly fallen snow to the tree Soaring Eagle used as a makeshift latrine. Hungry, the pair hiked through the snow as best as they could to where Soaring Eagle had laid a few snares. He grinned when he noticed he had caught a rabbit as they would eat well that day. Winters were hard in the Wilds and while his tribe had managed to get enough dried venison and fish to last until the spring thaw, Soaring Eagle tended to supplement that with fresh meat when he could catch something like the rest of the Elves.

Soaring Eagle removed the rabbit and reset the snare. He spotted a dead pheasant and trudged over to it, while Honey played in the snow with a couple of foxes. He wondered in the bird was their dinner, and holding it up, he said, “Thanks for pheasant.” Feeling bad about stealing their catch, he added, “Sorry, but I’m tired of eating dried meat and squirrels. Come on, Honey! Let’s go home.”

Honey bounded through the snow to his side as the foxes took off in the opposite direction.

Slinging the rabbit and pheasant over his shoulder, Soaring Eagle and Honey trudged home. Visions of hunter’s stew dancing in his head, he could not wait to get home to add his catch to the stewpot.
