Unable to sleep, Soaring Eagle left his tent and sat down on a log in front of it. He gazed up into the night sky at the moon. He wondered if Little Fox was alright, the boy having left a few days ago to go on some sort of an adventure with his new family. Soaring Eagle hoped the two older men treated him well. They had two other boys around Little Fox’s age with them and they seemed well taken care of. Besides, Little Fox had insisted the Spirits of Land had told him to go and that it would be alright. Still, he could not help feeling lonely. The boy was like a little brother to him despite the short amount of time he had spent with him. He sighed.
“I hope you’re okay, Little Fox.”
A soft rustling in the bushes near his tent, drew Soaring Eagle’s attention. Looking over his shoulder, he spotted a fox, a dead rabbit in its mouth. Soaring Eagle grinned. He took it as a sign his little buddy was alright. He looked up at the moon.
“Thanks for letting me know you’re okay, boy.”
Soaring Eagle stood up. He dusted the back of his thin, leather breeches off, and giving the moon one last look, he turned and walked over to his tent. He crawled inside and lay down on his bed roll. Closing his eyes, he quickly fell asleep and slept better than he had since Little Fox had left.
