The Grande Duke Alexander Saint-Germaine and his beloved Kitten Pashmina wandered the various food stalls set up in celebration of Vine Fest. It was a flavorful adventure in eating, as well as drinking. They spent the middle two weeks in the capital, enjoying the festivities during the six week long harvest festival.

Their morning breakfast came from the far off Spicelands. After spotting a tall man, with an unusual hair style that made him appear even taller, Pashmina had to go see what they had to offer. They chose a sample breakfast full of dishes they could not pronounce, but delicious none-the-less, all made by a woman who was as dark as she was tiny. Never had potatoes, lentils, cottage cheese, and eggs tasted so good, especially when they were washed down with the finest of teas. They left that stall, laden with spices and teas, along with a few carefully written recipes Pashmina was dying to have the cook, back home in Alex’s chateau, try to make.

When it came time for lunch, Alex steered his beloved Kitten towards a row of sausage vendors. The smell of cooking meat had both their mouths watering and it was not long, before the two of them were sitting in a makeshift beer garden, happily eating a plate of bratwurst and the rich potato salad the people of Alex’s lands made. It was a taste of home they both relished as they washed it down with a tankard of local beer.

They spent the rest of the afternoon, sampling the tidbits for offer in various food stalls. By the time dinner rolled around, they were stuffed. Dinner became a simple affair, consisting of a loaf of thick, crusty bread, a hunk of cheese, and a crock of sweet, creamy butter. On the way to the inn they were staying in, Alex purchased a jug of wine. They rested after dinner, until it was time to get up and join the dancers in the town square for the Peasants’ Ball under the stars.

While Alex and Pashmina stood there, along with the other dancers, watching the fireworks that signaled the end of the dance, several girls armed with baskets of sweets made their way through the crowds. When one of the girls stopped to hawk her wares, Pashmina recognized her as the daughter of one the confectioners they had stopped by earlier that day. “Let’s get some sweets!” he said as he motioned her over. Alex bought two paper cones full of sugared almonds. While they watched the fireworks, they enjoyed their sweet treats.

“So where should we eat tomorrow, your Alexness?” Pashmina teased as they headed back to the inn.

“I’m so stuffed, my dear, I can’t even think about food.” Alex gave Pashmina’s hand a little squeeze.

He giggled. “Me too!”
