For Corner of Madness with love…

Finland looked out the window, holding a mug of hot chocolate. It was clear and starry, and the moon hung big in the sky. He smiled as memories of when he had left Denmark’s house came flooding back. Finland drank as he recalled how scared he was back then. A memory of lying in an open field with Sweden surfaced. Over time that had gone from something that he had wanted to forget, to one of his favorite memories.

Hearing soft footsteps behind him, he looked over his shoulder. “Sve.” He smiled.

“Wife.” Sweden moved to stand behind him. Wrapping his arms around Finland, Sweden held him close. He rested his chin on top of his beloved’s head and looked out the window. “It’s like when we left Den’s house,” Sweden said.

“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking,” Finland said. “I was so scared back then.”

“I did my best to look after you.”

Finland wiggled around in Sweden’s arms. “Thanks,” he said softly as he tilted his face upwards. He closed his eyes, and taking the hint, Sweden leaned in and kissed him. Breaking the kiss, Finland shyly turned his face away and drank some of his hot chocolate.

Sweden let out a soft little chuckle. His face contorted in a ghost of a smile and Finland could not help laughing.

“I’m sorry, Sve, but whenever you do that, you remind me of Germany.” At Sweden’s raised eyebrow, he added, “Germany makes a similar face whenever Italy does something cute…” Finland blinked. “Did I do something… cute?”

Sweden nodded. He found just about everything his beloved “wife” did cute and adorable, and the more he thought about it, the more his cheeks heated up.

“Oh…” Finland felt his own cheeks heating up as an awkward silence settled between them. In an effort to break it, Finland smiled and said, “Would you like some cocoa? I finished mine and ummm… Well, I could make more if you want…”

Sweden nodded. “Thanks.”

Neither of them made an effort to move and this time when the silence settled between them, it was more comfortable. They held each other as they gazed into each other’s eyes and Finland wondered how he could ever have been afraid of this gentle giant of a man. Just as he was thinking of kissing Sweden again and suggesting they retire to someplace more comfortable, a loud thumping and light clattering headed their way as Sealand and Hana-Tomago came tearing out of the den.

“Hey, Mum, Dad!” Sealand cried as he thudded to a stop. “You gotta see this!”

“See what?” Finland asked.

After getting his parent’s attention, Sealand looked at Hana-tomago and held up his hand. “Gimme five!”

Hana-Tomago touched it with her paw.

“Nice.”

“Thanks!” He grinned when Sweden smiled and ruffled his hair.

Finland smiled. Their quiet nights at home were also a distant memory, not that he minded. He had had too many silent nights in Denmark’s house and this was a welcome change.
