Mmmm... see, I would post more, but I'm such a boring human being. I have bought fabric for my wedding dress... "fabric" consisting of 96 individual lace appliques that will need to be hand-applied to a "shell" dress to be made sometime in the near future when I am not so fat. Luckily my Mom is a delightful freak of nature and is really excited about hand-applying said appliques. Also we are seeking more appliques to vary the texture, but they are hard to find, so we are thinking of MAKING OUR OWN. See? Aren't you bored to tears already?
Netflix has been a blessing from God for Sean and me, because we don't have to argue over who has to think of date ideas anymore :-) No, actually we've done more "stuff" since we got it, since "going to Blockbuster and then Kroger to steal cookie samples" is NOT on our weekly checklist anymore (thus, I expect to lose fifteen pounds almost immediately). It is a good thing that we are drastically different people, but nowhere is this so evidenced than in our movie choices. Sean picks really esoteric comedies and random films no one has heard of (this week: "The TV Set" and "Fierce Creatures"). I pick (so far) all the movies that he hasn't let me rent for the past five years when we've had to agree on a movie- i.e. depressing somewhat girly movies (this week: Sophie's Choice, The Painted Veil). BUT he did pick "In Bruges" to see in the theater this week- and this is a major step for him, because a) it was only shown at the pretentious indie theater by Piedmont Park, which sells beer (yay!) but has foreign movie posters (for him, boo!), b) it was foreign, and c) it was good. Actually, his pick last week (A Fish Called Wanda) was excellent too. Remember that I have seen no movies made before 1993, so I am discovering classics. Also I thought it was going to be like "Splash," so it was always going to be surprising in a good way.
Also he has learned to relationship self-correct, which is an amazingly endearing trait. He was an ass this week about my spontaneous picnic date (even though he got me the freaking picnic basket for Valentine's Day!), and then when I called him later prepared to be all miffed, he immediately offered to watch Sophie's Choice to redeem himself- with no sniffy remarks on my part. Genius! Of course, I promptly repaid him by (seriously) blowing trivia tonight. He always comes to get me at 7pm, so I was home waiting, but I forgot I told him I'd probably stay in Decatur and meet him at trivia... crap! And then I did NOT offer to go down there anyway, meaning he is a better life partner than I am. I owe him big time, because I frequently trivia-flake, even if this time was not on purpose.
I FINALLY met up with Rachel/England group last week and FINALLY met up with Kat/Jenna today for lunch. I like Sean (obviously), but he is not acceptable as my only social contact. I need to call Jonelle as well. I've kind of sunk in a well of my own not-job-having-induced depression lately, and I forget how long it has been since I've seen people! But I had a GREAT career center interview today with literally the tallest man alive (he must have been at least seven feet tall), and I have an interview on Friday... so here's hoping.
Hm. Also I have read the Time Traveler's Wife (excellent), The Painted Veil (the only book I have not liked better than the movie, although it was still good), Tehanu (finally, a good Ursula le Guin book), two Victorian mystery short story collections, and a book of short fantasy stories based on the grail legend. Also I've decided I did like Sophie's Choice, even if it was long and entirely too erotic for a Holocaust novel. Next up: a short story collection based on the concept of mutants, one about criminal justice in the future, the Foundation trilogy, and a couple of classics. Maybe "Kidnapped" and "My Antonia." I also wrote the first mystery story in my future collection of ten, but I'm too scared to try to get it published.
