The paintings I did for my Animal Drawing class final.

These things were UTTERLY AWESOME. I swear they're like my new favorite fish or something. Definitely the highlight of my trip to the Aquarium. Well that and having lorikeets eat from my hand.

This was a fun one to do. I used a lot of reference for it. The teacher at the critique suggested I do something in watercolor to make it look like the penguin was more underwater. I said I did do it. And when she asked how it turned out I said, "it didn't work." She cracked up at that one.

This one was fun to do. I was really worried about over doing the shadows and shading, but the teacher liked it a lot. And the sky, which didn't come out so well in the scan, was one of those things where I had to say "Stop or I'll ruin it" but it came out nice.

This is based on the photograph that I have on my Journal Layout background. My dad took the picture when Pepper had flown into the master bathroom like a naughty bird.

For this painting I took a small ink sketch that I did at the zoo of the tiger and blew it up into a full blown painting. I think it really does capture the whole feel of the tiger and what he was doing. He'd just gotten kicked off his snoozing spot in a shady tree by his brother and this is where he ended up. Minus the jungle background.

The last piece we had to do was of a "cartoon" animal. Basically we had to make up an animal or turn an animal into a cartoon and write a short description of them. This is Elan the Jackalope and Bear the bear. They're from a story world that I'm working on where people are born with animals - not quite like the Philip Pullman trilogy, His Dark Materials. They're actual animals and can be touched by other people and they can't talk. Mythical animals belong to fairies and half fairies. So Elan's "person" is a page in the fairy queen's court while Bear's person is human. Elan and his person are staying with Bear's person and Elan likes trying to bother Bear.
Bear is very hard to bother. He tolerates it. And Elan doesn't care. He's conquered the Bear!
It took me about a week and a half to do all of these. Whoosh.
