Honey and Clover: Episode 2
It's finally here! Just to let you all know--I'm planning on including more analysis and less summary, since I realize that there are many reliable summaries that are out there for this drama series. One summary can be found here. Episode 2's summary should be up there soon. Also, I posted the relationship chart, an anime/drama character comparison, and a few scans of the cast in the post right before this, so please check it out!! :D So now that all of this explanation is over, now for my episode 2 summary!!! <3
Takemoto holds the tickets to an event which apparently one of the top prizes is a television that he really wants. He spots Morita coming and hides the tickets in his backpack. Later we see Morita, Takemoto, and Mayama playing jan ken pon (rock, paper, scissors) and Takemoto loses. And I guess this means that Takemoto has to wear armor. They assure him that it'll be fun, which most likely means that it'll be fun for them, and not necessarily for poor Takemoto. His poor luck places him into another uncomfortable situation.
Looks like Takemoto is pretending to be one of the random suits of armor in the background as a model poses naked for students to paint. Hagu is one of these people painting and others are crowing around her to observe her paint. She notices one of the suits of armor move a little and Takemoto freaks out. Is he caught? She stares at him a little while longer, then turns back to her painting. "Saaafe" Takemoto sighs. Morita and Mayama are peering through the vents in the door from outside. The model turns. The sensei steps right in front of her so Takemoto cannot see her. Ahh Morita and Mayama pulled the fire alarm...? Everyone gathers together to head out, and we see Takemoto in armor running towards the door too since he didn't realize that Morita and Mayama pulled the alarm. The class freaks out. They all freeze, staring at each other--Takemoto and the class. Takemoto slowly lowers his iron weapon. He tries to run off as the sensei chases him.
Takemoto is in a kneeling position as the sensei scolds him. Mayama and Morita meanwhile pretend that they have nothing to do with it. Hagu asked Mayama why he was there--Mayama pushed the blame on Takemoto still. Haha the sensei called him a hentai XD Takemoto gives the boys a dirty look as they let him take all of the blame. Morita's bonding with Hagu as Takemoto is still being scolded. Man nothing ever turns out right for him :(
Takemoto is later sulking in Shuuji's office as the others try to cheer him up. There's some cute Takemoto/Mayama rabu <3 Poor Takemoto keeps getting teased more and more--Morita seems to have sold Takemoto's tickets for something stupid. Fliers even appear that talk about the earlier thing that just happened and so he is fed up with it and decides to leave, even though Shuuji and Hagu have just appeared. The sensei asks Takemoto if he can take Hagu somewhere--Takemoto is stunned.
Takemoto is still staring at the second prize of the television. This time Hagu is beside him because he is escorting her around now. She asks if he's okay. He says yes. Takemoto hears his name being called. He slowly turns around in fear. Turns out it's Yamada's father and his posse XD Looks like Yamada's father had one of those tickets that Morita stole.
Aww another Morita/Yamada moment <3 Morita is busy mixing some paints together for a painting he was planning on doing. I think they're giving off the idea of Morita as an artistic genius because this screen showed with writing about compounds and mixtures of the paints. Yamada kicks Morita in the side because Morita was opening his arms to hug her. Yamada kicks and rips one of Morita's paintings in half.
Takemoto and Hagu go on a pseudo-date as he shows her around. They go to a supermarket. Hagu mentions that she likes pickled food. Back to Morita/Yamada. Looks like Morita still has two of Takemoto's tickets. They try to create more tickets by copying the design of the stamp on the tickets. They were fooling around and a picture frame falls. It contains a picture of Rika-san, the woman who Mayama is in love with. Meanwhile, Mayama enters Rika's apartment. It's back to Takemoto and Hagu. Takemoto is asking the clerk at the supermarket where the pickled food is. He then wanders to find Hagu. Hagu saw a boy that was crying because he was lost and she taught him the weird moves that Morita taught her earlier. Takemoto told her not to believe anything he says, but she says that it's okay. Takemoto slumps in defeat as the boy repeats the moves. By the way I LOVE the second to the last screencap in this following group <3
Yamada goes on a ranting rage on Rika while Morita pours her tea. "Mayama no aho...aho, AHOOOO!!!" XD Mayama and Rika are working together. Mayama has decided to finally stop. Shuuji is buying liquor. It's for someone's birthday the next day. Takemoto and Hagu are still out and about. He points out some good food, but the place is closed. Aww Hagu bought something for Hanamoto-sensei (Shuuji). Takemoto and Hagu are playing a video game that takes place underwater and she mentions that she's never seen the sea before. Takemoto then tries to win a prize in the claw machine for her. Mayama meanwhile walks while musing over his conversation with Rika earlier. He handed over his key. Meanwhile Takemoto is being an epic fail at the claw machine, as expected. He has a last chance with his last coin. He prays to be able to win the prize. He tries to get the ring she wanted but he got another one. He moaned and apologized. She assured Takemoto that the ring he got was fine. They then walk and talk about their time out together.
One of the workers at Rika's office offers a folder to Mayama in regards to Rika, but he tells her that it's his last day there. Ahh so he IS Nomiya-kun. Nomiya tries to scold Mayama about lovers in the workplace and all that stuff. Mayama leaves. Ahh seems like Morita was successful in duplicating the stamp by carving wood. He tries to cheer up Yamada but it's not working. Hagu and Takemoto enter. She mentions to Yamada that she met her father. Takemoto notices Yamada's down expression and asks her what's wrong. Ahh--such a sensitive young fellow XD She tells him that it's nothing. Oy. Morita is eating the buns that the two of them bought earlier for Shuuji. Oh here it is! Shuuji enters Rika's apartment, presenting her with the wine he was looking for earlier. So it's Rika's birthday? She mentions how Mayama's done.
Yamada enters Hagu's studio while she's painting and talks generally about liking a boy. Hagu says that she has no one. Takemoto found a stone that him and Hagu were looking at earlier but it was too expensive. It seems like Lohmeyer-senpai has returned from a trip to Hawaii. They look through his photo album. Another moment when they listen to Lohmeyer-senpai talk and hang on his every word. Mayama is emo-ing it up in class. Takemoto finds him in a seat and enters. The chatter immediately ceases when Takemoto lowers his backpack to the seats with a large thump. Mayama wonders where Morita was. Takemoto answers "working". Morita's actually playing a game. Yamada's father seems to be heading it. Looks like Morita's cover was blown regarding the stamp XD
Takemoto spots Hagu painting. "Chance" he mutters as he pulls the stone out of his backpack. Turns out that Hagu already had a stone, as Shuuji presented it. Takemoto apologizes to his mom for taking out the stone like that as the Takemoto emo music plays XD Yamada spots him and asks about Mayama. Takemoto spazzes a bit and hides the rock behind his back as he tries to wriggle out of it ;) Mayama is looking for a new job. Yamada asks Shuuji about Rika-san. He explains Rika's background. If you didn't know--it was a trio always--Shuuji, Rika, and Rika's boyfriend who turned into her husband after graduation. The three were always close. Ahhh--looks like the wine was for her husband who is dead. Rika prays to his tombstone, placing the bottle of wine on it. Looks like this is the man who is forever in Rika-san's heart. Mayama is laying on a bench outside smoking as Yamada urges him to stop it with Rika-san. She tells him that it is impossible (to love Rika). He shouts that he knows. But there is nothing he can do about it. Oh poor one-sided loves :( She watches him walk away. Takemoto saw the whole thing.
Mayama walks into Shuuji's office, sits down, and takes a smoke. He notices the Rika, her husband, and Shuuji photo next to him. Shuuji quietly observes him. Takemoto stares at Hagu's painting again. Creepy guy asks where Morita "dai-sensei" (he's being really respectful and slightly obsequious) and Takemoto answers that Morita has gone home. I guess the dude had a ton of tickets. Takemoto freaks out. Morita takes the tickets away. And I believe Takemoto called Morita the devil XD
Yamada is crying alone in the pottery room. Morita shows up. He tries to cheer her up. I really do love this friendship--they don't need to say much to each other but they're there whenever the other needs it. I have a feeling that Yamada doesn't like to show when she's weak to others but Morita seems to be there at her weakest moments to support her. Takemoto is too shy to aid her, but Morita is always there. I'm also loving Mayama more <3
Queen plays in the background as the crew heads out to the game booth. I guess Lohmeyer won the car...? Takemoto tries coming up with a strategy but they all turn him down, including Hagu. Takemoto whines. Meanwhile, apparently Morita has used up all of their tickets and lost every time. They all go to beat Morita up while Hagu wins. She wins some beach gear? Like a snorkel and inner tube and flippers and stuff. Takemoto asks about the gold ball, which came out when she won. Yamada's dad pointed out the gold color of all of the beach gear. I guess whenever Morita and Yamada's dad fights a group of children cry XD Takemoto watches Hagu watching Morita. This reminds me of Hana Kimi ;) Takemoto yells, getting everyone to shut up. He suggests going to the beach, thinking of Hagu.
They head out to the beach in Lohmeyer-senpai's new car. Awww Hagu's wearing the ring Takemoto won for her <3 Morita shoves Yamada in the car next to Mayama. Yamada asks Takemoto to sit in the middle in the back seats. Morita complained, saying that he likes to sit in the middle, but Yamada wants to keep Morita from bothering Hagu. Morita asks Hagu to sit on the other side of him but she refuses. Takemoto is happy. On the ride over Morita falls asleep all over Takemoto ;) Takemoto glances at the ring on Hagu's finger. She looks back at him. He quickly averts his gaze. Yamada asks about the ring. Takemoto tries to change the subject by asking about her skirt XD They arrive at the beach. Morita runs into the water right away with the inner tube. It's too cold, so he quickly runs back over to them. The others play around as Takemoto watches Hagu. Mayama walks by, knowing who he was staring at ;) They all rejoin and Yamada starts chugging a pint of beer. Hagu calls her kakkoii XD
Yamada is VERY drunk. Takemoto's packing up for the ride home. Morita is busy building a sandcastle. Hagu's crouched down doing something. Takemoto asks her what she's doing. She lost her ring. I guess this almost symbolic, no? And also more rotten luck for Takemoto XD It is nighttime and Yamada is hugging a bottle of wine. Mayama shakes her, trying to get her to get up so they can go. He pulls her up and offers to have her ride on his back. She refuses at first but he insists on it. She climbs on Mayama's back and starts hitting him with her fists, calling him an aho again. He says that he gets it. She repeats herself over and over. "Mayama...suki." Oh no, she confessed!! She cries, repeating "suki" again. All we hear is an "un" from Mayama. Yamada: Daisuki! Mayama: Arigatou.
Takemoto and Hagu are busy digging for the ring on the beach. Morita gestures to make Hagu come towards him. She does. Takemoto's back is turned to them, still digging for the ring on the beach. Morita puts a different ring on her finger. Meanwhile Takemoto finds the ring. Morita and Hagu are holding hands. Morita pours water. Hagu smiles. He determines that they are married. Takemoto sees the two and presents the ring that he found, only to see Morita lean in to kiss Hagu. She is shocked. The ring falls by Takemoto's side. Morita tells her that it's custom in Tokyo for people to kiss. HOW SAD ;_; ;_;

Next episode: Aftermath of the chuu. Mayama says that Yamada looks nice in a yukata. Hagu and Morita more couple-y. Hagu: Takemoto, gomenasai. ;_;
