[Recovered by IntSec from a damaged PDC 3000 RED]
A young woman’s face appears, obviously recorded from a hand-held device she herself is operating. She is smiling, and as soon as she confirms her device is recording, she reports brightly, “This is Goldenspa-R-ROW-2, reporting from TEX sector BRIEFING ROOM 778. I have been assigned as Communications and Recording Officer for Troubleshooter team TEX-47, a task I accept with enthusiasm and joy for the opportunity the Computer has given me.”
Still recording, Goldenspa-R continues: “We have been sent on a mission to apprehend a dangerous former Troubleshooter designated Guymon-R-TAG-5, who has chosen to turn away from the Computer’s bounty and instead illegally hoard hazardous and treacherous materials. Our team, led by brave, if unfortunate, registered mutant Page-R-CON-1, is to travel to the TAG sector and detain Guymon-R-TAG-5, using deadly force if necessary.
“Assisting us in this endeavor is Happiness Officer Dolly-R-TEX-1, Equipment Guy Cat-R-WAL-1, and Hygiene Officer Lu-R-YAN-2. I am certain this will be an exciting and prosperous mission!” The screen goes red, and a placard reading [Deleted for Security Reasons] replaces a good chunk of the recording. When the video resumes, the team is in a red corridor.
The video focuses on a corridor wall, on which ‘CAT-R’ has been spray-painted, with a large arrow pointing to a confession booth. The camera pans to Cat-R-WAL-1, who comments, “Hm. I wonder who this Cat-R-TEX is? Anyway, we should be getting on our mission.” Goldenspa-R’s off-screen voice agrees.
“We will not allow this evil act of destructive terrorism deter us from the goals to which the wise Computer has directed us. Clean-up crews seem to have matters well in hand, so we continue on to our mission. Any delay, and the Communists win!” As soon as Cat-R turns away, Goldenspa says quietly, “We must watch Cat-R closely for terror links.”
The next shot is a pan of a PLC corridor, where long lines of Infrared citizens await their chance to be denied whatever it is they came here to request. Team TEX-47 join a much shorter line of RED-clearance people, but still look to be waiting in line for hours, if not longer. One by one, RED clearance techs turn from the front of the line.
Instructed by Page-R, Goldenspa-R interviews one of the empty-handed techs. “I’ve been sent to obtain dampening rods for the TEX sector reactor, and have been jerked around all day. If I were you, I’d get out of the sector - one more delay, and this entire area is going to be irradiated.” The frustrated tech hurries off.
The next shot is of flashing red rollers, with the overwhelming sound of alarm klaxons. A loudspeaker announces that higher-clearance populous may leave the area, while here in the PLC the swarms of Infrareds panic and go nuts. As the other RED clearance techs head for the door, Team TEX-47 leaps into action, moving to the empty counter.
The camera zooms into a flustered clerk, who casts anxious glances at the door behind him. Holding up a requisition list on her PDC, Page-R demands the assigned equipment. The clerk distractedly pulls up the list in his own computer, and tells the Troubleshooters he can have the gear pulled, but they can’t pick it up until they go to HPD&MC.
The camera pans to the PLC exit, which is crammed with stampeding Infrareds desperate to escape before the sector goes nuclear. The Troubleshooters approach the crowd, and Page-R makes a motion with her hands. The crowd parts violently, unlucky Infrareds on the periphery smashed into the interior walls, creating bright blood mosaics.
Troubleshooter Team TEX-47 calmly strolls out of the room, through the now-vacant doorway.
