R.I.P., Stan Lee

This is a terrible reason to finally get back online with you guys, and so much has happened in RL that I couldn't even catch you up on all of it, but this more than anything made me want to reach out to my online friends, because no one could understand like you would.

I know that first and foremost I'm a DC fan. Those are the first superhero comics I read, the first movies and TV shows I saw, and that band of heroes will always rank first in my heart. But I don't give a damn if you love DC, Marvel, Image, Valiant, or a comic that only exists online. We ALL lost someone special today, and comics wouldn't be as mainstream and high quality as they are today without his influence.

I'm going to miss his cameos in Marvel movies. I'm going to miss seeing his name on convention guest lists. I'll even miss having him there as a constant example of where my beloved DC sometimes gets it wrong -- the heroes can be complex and flawed without becoming dark and depressing.

There aren't enough words to praise this man for his contributions to our entertainment and imagination, though far better writers than me can and will try, as they damned well should.

Excelsior, Mr. Lee. I'm glad you're with your wife again, and thanks for everything.
