Arthur/Merlin
Merlin's a private investigator. Arthur hires him to find his sister (Morgana) after she goes missing. (The Pendragons remain super wealthy.) Little does he know, the reason Merlin's so good at finding people is the same reason his sister disappeared - magic.

This isn't meant as a crossover, but I'll 'fess up - I had Veronica Mars on the brain when that one popped into my head ;)

The Yard won’t look into it; they said Morgana left of her own free will; they helpfully suggested,” there was a trace of irony in Arthur Pendragon’s tones here, “that she's probably somewhere in Barbados with a lover to spite my father. You may have come across a few gossip columns about my family here and there. They say...things. You're the last resort, Mr. Emrys. That said, I refuse to trust you on the basis of hearsay. The prompt is fantastic; one could write on and on for it; I just wasn't sure if what I'd come up with was what you wanted, since you referred to Veronica Mars and I've never watched an ep. Anyway I do have more. And I swear I'll finish it.

And if you like private investigators, examination of families with tons of wealth and those without, tons of awesome characters, writing, and acting I can't recommend Veronica Mars enough! (No magic though, sadly :P )

“Last week,” Arthur Pendragon said as he settled back on his chair; he managed to look comfortable in it notwithstanding its many angles. Merlin briefly wondered if the power to look good whatever you did came naturally to those with money, a DNA regulated kind of thing, or if it was an acquired trait. Pendragon was saying, “She popped into my office to say hi; she … teased a little. We have this weird... She's my stepsister, but we have this very sibling-like relationship, so she dropped in, teased and left after only a few minutes as usual. Nothing different from any given day ( ... )

“Any quarrel, any tiff?” Merlin speculated aloud.

“Morgana is...” Pendragon paused and seemed to be weighing his words carefully. “Outspoken, so she's had rows and animated discussions with quite a number of people, my own father included.”

Merlin made as if to open his mouth, but was prevented by Pendragon turning fully towards him. Not flinching under Arthur Pendragon's close scrutiny was not easy, but Merlin managed it, sort of. He just waited as he was being appraised.

Pendragon nodded to himself, having established what, Merlin did not know, and said, “Morgana is a lot of things and she may come across as unpleasant sometimes, being too direct most of the times, but she is not one to back away from any challenge or to disappear into thin air because of a heated exchange of words - and that includes my father.”

Merlin guessed Pendragon was very fond of his stepsister, truly so, and not just in a we've been thrown together by circumstances sort of way. Merlin couldn't exactly forgive Pendragon’s arrogance, but knowing about ( ... )
