How on earth did I get into this?

When I started this job, it was mainly technical writing. It has since progressed into a variety of other things, which is fine. And ultimately, I think I'm going in the direction of managing the website. However, for the short term (which had better not last more than a year, if that), I'll be veering off into a totally different and unwanted direction. You see, the guy who has been doing most of our support calls is leaving. And while we will eventually hire someone for this job specifically, right now we're understaffed, so I get to do it. And I really don't want to. I took my first support call yesterday, and I didn't like it at all. I don't mind so much answering questions like "How do I ____?" but calls like yesterday's, that are more along the lines of "Where did all my files go?" stress the heck out of me - especially as all the deep techie stuff that causes that sort of problem is way beyond my ken. Thank god for the lovely lovely techie/dev boys. I know I'll get used to it and learn to cope, but for the next little while, I'm probably going to be a slight basketcase. To make matters kind of even worse, the soon-to-be former support guy is not leaving at the end of the next month, or even in the middle of next month, which is what I last heard. No, he's now apparently leaving at the end of this month. So I have two weeks to get up to speed on all the existing clients and take over. Oy... Thank god they've promised me that it won't be permanent.

Oh, and Jeff, the person we've had in recently for extra graphics support is most likely going to take another job. So if you think you might be at all interested, let me know.

4poyntz, work
