I went to see it this morning at 12:01am with Travis, Jared, Justin and Vito. We all agreed it was time and money well spent. A unique and satisfying film with exceptional digital effects and effects integration. The mixing of media and camera styles to relate the story allowed for a free flowing flick with only a few hiccups. I'd highly recommend it for sure. I'd also recommend avoiding ads and articles (including the cover story of Entertainment Weekly's latest edition).
EW Spoiled My Ride: I'm so pissed at EW. I've done my best to avoid knowing the details about d9 beyond the basic premise. So what does EW do but put the lead actor on the cover with one human eye and one alien eye. WTF??? So of course, even without reading the article I can start to brainstorm and put together that this guy somehow is either a hybrid or something like it. So rather than be surprised by the events that unfold I'm instead wondering the how and when of his transformation. I just felt like EW robbed me of some of the fun I should have had watching.
Spoiler #2: Thankfully without having cable the great shot when he grabs the rocket out of mid-air in his alien2 suit was a total surprise. I actually said "yeah!!" aloud I was so surprised and awesomed' (nice word, eh?) by it. I guess I'm the only one without cable though because the rest of the theater didn't even really react to it. heheh
So yeah, it lived up to the hype for me...
