The Weekend that Was - The Week that Is

Nov 25, 2008 17:08

It's been a good day I gotta say. I was stressed out because I have to train a client on part of our product tomorrow morning but after sitting down with one of the developers my knowledge is now strong like bull and I'm good to go. It's a WebEx at 8am but on the plus side I'll go into work early and be able to then leave work early which will directly contribute to my being on vacation early, packing for my trip home for Thanksgiving, Podcasting, and going to the LA Eagle for a birthday beer with birthday bear fakeplasticbear.

Speaking of podcasting. I've been doing some pimping here and there but here's a big pimp for those of you who haven't checked it out. Go fucking check it out already - Jeez. Heh, kidding. But yeah - serious - go check it out right now or I'll stop storing those bodies for you that we're not supposed to talk about. We'll be putting down Episode 006 tomorrow before I travel North and I think we'll be discussing taking your junk out in public, drinking games, and holiday plans among other items. Seriously, this isn't LOST - so don't go feeling like you have to go back and listen to all the previous episodes. Just jump in wherever you'd like and give it a listen. We have a lot of fun doing it and I think you'll enjoy the results. 619 Bearcast.

This weekend was a lot of fun. With all the folks from out of town--in town and various planned activities. On Friday we got our geek on in a big way, laying down song after song on Rock Band 2. I did convincing vocals on a handful of songs but I really ass'd it up nice when I tried to do Copy Suey by System of the Down. I'm still in leg humping love with RB2 drums. In fact, I will most assuredly be playing some tonight when I get home.

Saturday we headed to Confidential for JD's birthday dinner. It's a downtown tapas-style place that Richard Sweeney from Top Chef works at. The food was delicious - the sirloin medallions were enough to get my shorts wet. That boy knows how to cook! I'm already talking to some of the SD guys about going again. Richard came out for a while and chatted us up and that was fun too. I know Jaime was all puppies and kittens about getting to meet him so it was a treat for him and that was cool. From there we checked out JD and Dean's room at the Hard Rock Hotel - swanky! I said my goodbyes and walked up to the House of Blues after that. I had a ticket to see a punk band I loved in college called Face to Face.

Face to Face broke up about 5 or 6 years ago so this was a reboot show because I guess they're pretty much back together and performing (with original guitarist and new drummer). The place was packed! I had my back against the soundboard and when the first song went the whole floor turned into a pit. Took me back in the wayback machine for sure. Crowd surfing, stage diving, moshing... Lots of cute cubbies too. The band sounded pretty together. The lead singer had some tiresome banter but still, they rocked. I guess I'm an "old" fan because every time he said "this is an old one"I knew all the words. It really got me pumped up though. Great show!

From there I met up with the guys again at PECs and got somewhat trashed. I also got jumped into Dean's drinking game (listen to Episode 006 of the podcast for details) and just had an all around exceptional time with people I like a bunch.

Sunday was brunch and crepes and then lots of Rock Band for me followed by good times at the Hole with Kevin and Michael and Aussie Mike and then Pizza Explosion and bed. Was just a nonstop weekend really.

Last night the bar was slow. Thankfully Jay, John, Bryson, and Mike (AUS) came by to hang out and that helped to pass the time.

This week will fly by with the holiday - 4 days off! Then next week I'll fly to Minnesota for work. Looking forward to seeing all the MN guys. If yer in Minneapolis I'll be staying with jcubmn the weekend of the 6th and we'll probably be going out for a beer at some point. Will be fun!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
