Friday night I played Wii with
rrumm and he helped me beat a wicked hard level on Mario Galaxy and that's good because what would life be without a sense of accomplishment...
Saturday I woke up and made myself presentable in time for
bigkid ,
cavbear28 , and
bearringsd to meet me for lunch at Big Daddy's. They have delicious crepes which are made by real Americans and they're super tasty. I even got a Lemon Drop crepe which as I type this the idea of it's sweet yumminess is making my stomach rumble. We then walked down into Hillcrest and hit the H.Crest Cinema to see Juno - which was a fine movie that we all agreed was worth taking time to see. I did take umbrage to the attempt at bringing "wizard" back into the popular lexicon (as a replacement for "cool") but there were enough umbrage-free items to make me smile. Notably, Jason Bateman digging the Sonic Youth cover of a Carpenters song that I like a lot and the best friend of Juno digging bears. w00t. After the movie we walked to YogArt (we walk in San Diego because in January it's 76 degrees and while you are trying to rationalize why that isn't important to you it's really better that you just give that up and embrace wishing you lived here with us) and met up with
rrumm and
pinner123 to talk about Dave's impending move to Temecula. I had to split a little early though because I was driving up to LA.
And I did - drive to LA that is. It was foggy on the five near San Onofre and people were driving like their eyes were clouded over with stupid. That brought me down but I carried on (Howard Stern on Sirius helps) and still made it to Los Feliz in under 2 hours. Andy (
fakeplasticbear ) and I shared a bottle of champagne and watched something on TV - I'm not even sure what it was because I was enjoying getting drunk more and talking with Andy morer. We went to Subway (yes, we were buzzed enough to consider Subway food) and ate while driving to the Sunset Strip to see a band called
Powder play at the Key Club.
I've written about Powder before. They are quite good. Your life would immediately improve if you started listening to them today and if you bought their album on iTunes or wherever their lives would improve too. Powder makes me smile the entire time I watch them perform. I also got a box of Junior Mints that was tossed out to the audience along with toilet brushes and twizzlers and getting free shit at a concert is almost as good as having someone lick the spot between my ballsack and my anoose (no staph here fellas!). To get an idea of their stage show
click here. You can see a
nifty vid of them here. Note, they have a new drummer and bass player (new drummer is cute and fucking ROCKS the old skool break dancing skillz in a big way - chunky white boys with moves give me hope). I asked Phil X (the guitar player) to come and play in San Diego and he sighed - I think Phil X is frustrated by how difficult it is to market their band and to score gigs outside of LA. I would be too.
After the show we went to The Eagle and it was crowded and enjoyable. I talked with a guy about musicals (fag) and had a nice time. He is a singer and was going to do vocal work for something that I remember being impressed by but can't for the life of me remember now. I can however, remember that stupid fucking Jan switched a poster with Mike's sketches when they visited an amusement park and that the poster in question had Yogi Bear on it.
I crashed at around 3am and woke up at 7am so I could meet
e_ticket and then meet
cpratt and
danlmarmot for breakfast before heading to the Getty Villa along with
ursuspersonatus . It was nice to meet Bruce. I think it took him a few to get an understanding for the kind of suave yet silly man of the world I am.
The Villa is amazing. And not just because of the artwork there but really because of the design of the grounds and the buildings themselves. I took a bunch of photos. Here are a couple of them that I like:
After the Villa we headed back to Dave's and I went to Taco Bell to get some food and give $2.65 to a homeless guy who looked like he could use it. Around 2pm or so bears started showing up and it was nice to meet some LJers for the first time. Once we had a good sized group o' folks we walked over to the nail salon to have our nails did. We sorta took the place over with our faggotry and it was glorious. I took many photos - here are a few:
Like other get togethers of this kind I won't try and list all the LJers as that would take more time than I am willing to invest. I did get to hug each of them and that's always one of the benefits of being around large groups of handsome men who like cock. I also got to see LAers who I hadn't seen in a while and they got a chance to reject my suggestions of their coming down to San Diego once in while. Ok - Aaron and Gary did seem to contemplate the idea just a bit. Yaay. It took a while for the nail folks to figure out we were The Gay (stop laughing). I mean, they put the Giants game on the TV and I was just like - "Oh, we aren't that type of nail salon attending men" - so she put it back on E!
After nails we had burgers at In-N-Out and then we went to Dave and
fidgetcub 's pad for cake and ice cream, virtual make-overs, video games, snuggles, and Catch Phrase (which apparently brings out the sex in me). I recommend Catch Phrase to all - I do not recommend sitting next to
garycotti when playing Catch Phrase because he totally cheats like a dirty bitch and abuses my love for him to get away with it.
I stayed too long but am glad I did. I had a good time and am really glad I came up. If you'd like to see a vid of Dave opening my gift to him and getting all gay over it you can see it right below what your reading right now. Thanks again to
pinner123 for designing and making the shirt. Dave lost his shit over it and I'm so glad I could put it together for him.
All the photos from the weekend can be found here. I wake up in the morning in hopes that I'll have more moments like I had over this last weekend.

btw - massive awesome points to Chris G. for saying "they're hostess pants" while Dave opens the gift... thank you for being geek like me mister...
