You probably haven't even noticed but for the last 20 days I've been titling my journals with questions... I've decided I'm not gonna be that guy pretty much because after a while making up questions gets a little stale and by limiting myself I can not longer have snapping entry titles like "Turbo Grasshopper Happy Super Funtime Shiny Clover Bark"... Reason enough, eh?
Wow, great couple of days behind me. On Friday night after work I drove up to Laguna Woods to my Mom's condo. I didn't get there 'til around 11pm but my sister and Mom were still up (long enough to give me a hug before they went to bed). Then I watched my nephew Josh (16) play Halo for about 30 minutes until I passed out.
Saturday we got up and had breakfast with my Aunt Liz at Carrows (good lord, that place blows!) and I enjoyed catching up with folks. It'd been months since I saw any of my family so this was long overdue. We then went out to the beach and hung out in the haze while my nephew Nathan made sand castles with my Mom. Josh learned that castles made of sand slip into the sea...eventually, so it was nice to be there for that pivotal moment in his life. Liz (sister) and I walked down to the public bathroom and got to watch a drunk and desperate housewife puke across the street from us. I also got an orange shake that was super yummy from a local spot near where our car was parked.
We stopped in at my Aunt's place on real quick, in time to see my Grandma and Grandpa who were staying there for the weekend and to see pictures of my cousin Matt's (younger than me by 5 years) house that he bought. Brand new, five bedrooms, granite counter tops, all that good stuff. The kid has done good!
I split on over the
fakeplasticbear's pad and we got to hang out and catch up some before getting some grup and heading over to Dodger stadium. Our seats for the concert were actually pretty damn good. We were in the third row just right of center in the Loge section. Unobstructed view and no one all that annoying around us. Foo Fighters opened and did a bit of a greatest hits set. Holy shit did they kick ass. Dave Grohl is so totally my hero (watch him as he goes). The even played like a 15 minute version of "Stacked Actors" that included Dave running around on the field and being a rock star.
The Police came out and did a greatest hits set as well. I gotta say, I was expecting much and delivered more than much. Sting's voice sounded better than I thought it would (much better). They played a good mix of songs (pretty much what you would expect: wrapped around your finger, king of pain, synchronicty II, roxanne, so lonely, can't stand losing you, message in a bottle, every little thing she does, etc) and I was generally pleased with the exception of the mid-tempo arrangement of don't stand so close to me (slower than the original but faster than the re-do from the Single disc). It was not good. They were a little muddy on a few of the transitions out of jams and the guitar leads were a little boring. But hey, it was the fucking Police and I was just having fun being there, taking it all in (just about 2 hours). If the FOOs hadn't of opened it wouldn't have been such a great show, but in the end I was satisfied.
I got back to my Mom's pad around midnight and passed out. We got up around 6:30am this morning to hit Disney. I got cut off by a woman with a "jesus loves you" license plate holder and another family gave me the heavy heavy flashers when I got in front of them in line to pay for parking. Do not FUCK with people when they are working on getting their Disney on. They will tear your shit up!
We headed for Nemo and we were told the line with be 5 1/2 hours (this is at 8:15am). Yes, the park was crowded early. My sister and I being diehards decided to stay in line. Mom and nephews went to ride "20 rides in that time". You go Mom. I got Liz and I fast passes for Space and I played line hooky and went on Buzz Lightyear too while she waited in line. When I got back and was looking for her who did I find in line but the ever pleasant and woofy
booddhabear. He quickly offered to let my sister and I cut forward to get in line with him (people were cool about line moving since we were all in for 3-5 hours stands... park workers even asked if everyone was taking time to get fast passes for other rides while they waited). Anyhow, my sister was blown away by the power of the Velvet Mafia and whilst enjoying Chris' company the time flew right by. We we joined by my nephew in line and Liz even went to get us churros. Before we knew it we were boardin' a sub and descending. No spoilers, no hints - I'll just say try and sit in the middle if you have a choice and I thought as far as rides go it was pretty nifty and way better than what was there before.
We bid so long to Chris and hit a few more rides before leaving the park to go to a birthday dinner for my cousin's grandmother and good friend of the family, Dee. Red Lobster baby (her choice) with 25 of us together. Food was actually tasty and I had a blast catching up with the family. I left after dinner and just got home about an hour ago... I am wiped... out...
Oh yeah, I got to talk with Crush during Turtle Talk (he told me to be careful, he was worried about the moss growing on my face). And we also go the one of a kind "year of a million wishes" mouse ears - they handed them to us when we got off of Indian Jones). More pics to come when Chris posts his and I finally get my sister on Flickr. Double Oh Yeah, I took my camera but didn't bring a memory card!!! Between the beach and Disney I missed out on soooooo many
Dad Safari shots. Sorry!
