Happy Birthday to a woman that I think gave the best female performance of all time. I can seriously watch Silence of the Lambs over and over again just for the chemistry between her and Hopkins. It is chilling every time. I still get shivers every time she walks up to that jail cell for the very first time with her pointed nose, West Virginia accent, and hands moisturized with Evian skin cream and tries to get Hannibal Lecter to read through the Buffalo Bill case file. The second time, she musters up enough courage to bargain with Hannibal in a little "quid pro quo" action. The third time, her quid pro quo forces her to divulge her most painful memories of lambs going to slaughter and every time I feel as vulnerable as she does knowing that the monster on the other side of the cage could twist my mind in ways unimaginable. But, Hannibal holds off and takes mercy on Clarice, probably the only sign that he still has a heart. It is rather romantic if you think about it. Watch this short little clip:
Well,
Jodie Foster, I salute you and hope that you will some day make another movie that I love as much. For making Silence of the Lambs, I will give you this for your birthday:
Hey, you're going to need something to put in that closet once you come out of it.
