Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts.

It was an act of stupidity.

Because really, Zexion should have seen it coming. Had he trusted sight, smell, truth, sense, he wouldn't have fucked the Hell up. He had given up those things though, forgotten his rationality where he'd left it, at some bedside one night when the covers had been tossed to the floor, and hours, days, weeks later, he was finding out that this was the Morning After; this was the chaser.

He had never been one to look up to people, smug when he could look down at their faces, and never able to recall what their eye color was if they were taller than him. Zexion liked standing when others were sitting, scoffing when others were speaking, lying when others were trusting. He was control's favorite guest. He treated Axel as no exception.

But when coins are flipped and land on the wrong side, when books are read finish to start, when faerie tales have no morals, that's when Zexion is caught without experience, with no outlet, with no way to look but up, no way to live but through mercy, no way to breathe but to beg.

When things go awry, and Axel takes his own control of matters, feeding a little boy the opposite side of life, Zexion forgets how to scoff. Loses faith slowly. Finds only limp threads of what had been an old tapestry.

Because Axel is the exception to every rule, and it's a fact that must be learned.
