Though I sympathize with Morgana totally, this episode really made me feel bad for Uther, and I feel like this might not have been the case if there'd been more buildup and more interaction between the two of them to lead up to this last straw.
She broke his heart. And he was way off-kilter for the rest of the episode, torn between his love for her and his anger. It's clear he would never hurt her, would literally be unable to, because he's handicapped by his feelings. If they ever had a real showdown she would win because she seems to have separated herself from what feelings she had. It was great seeing Morgana as assertive as she used to be; I've missed that and their scene was full of tension. It also makes total sense if you take their whole relationship into account and everything Uther's done, but I have to say I didn't think her break with Uther would happen the one time he wasn't actually persecuting anyone. :(
I agree, had there been more buildup between them, had we seen her expressing outrage at him for condemning Gauis to death, etc....then it would have seemed a little less harsh. You're right, it is sad that the one time he isn't actively persecuting (I mean I think it's within reason to kill someone trying to kill you) is when the final break-up happens.
You know I actually thought he would kill her if he found out she had magic (she does too!), but after this epp, after seeing him unable to act against her even after she betrays him and helps his enemy escape, I think now that he wouldn't have killed her for her magic....
And nice gif, god did ASH do a great job with that scene, the heartbreak is written all over his face! :(

Oh, I actualyl didn't. And this kind of just confirmed it. I can imagine him locking her forever or sth. BUT IDK, I don't think he'd find it in his heart to actually go forward with it.
Or maybe banishing her....I don't know if he'd even have the heart to lock her up for good! (He seems to like locking his kids up to punish them temporarily, like in 1x12, but he did that to Arthur in 1x04 as well, to teach them a "lesson").
I guess this confirms his sentiments in 1x12....but on the other hand he did also say in 1x08 that if he had ever found out that Morgana had had something to do with Mordred's escape that she would not maintain her father's protection. Although maybe then as in 2x11 he knew she had done it but pretended not to, just to warn her...
And yeah, I was full of shipper squee at that as well, his refusal to hurt her, gah! :p
