This provides a nice microcosm of left-wing 'thought'.
The world is divided into Victims and Oppressors
Over-simplistic Manichean viewpoint, of course. Meant lots of doublethink, particularly in the '80s when it wasn't clear whether Isreal or Muslims were getting the worse deal - now we all know that the "Zionists" are Oppressors and not Victims it's much easier.
In this case, a disabled man is a Victim, both of life and of the police Oppressors (aka darling fascist bully-boys). Because he said so, and because a short video shows him being dragged by police.
Victims deserve special treatment
Violent protestors, and those involved in civil disobedience, are manhandled by the police. This is not brutality, this is simply the minimum force required to move them from the roads/buildings that they are trying to block.
Apparently, though, someone sitting on the road and having to be dragged away because they refuse to use their legs is entirely different to someone sitting on a wheelchair and having to be dragged away because they won't move or use their legs. And yes, that is "won't", not "can't", in this case.
Victims are treated according to an entirely different set of rules. It's not "acceptable for the police to do what they did to this man with cerebral palsy", because a Victim could not be a troublemaker. Oh no. Someone with CP is a gentle snowflake who is incapable of doing wrong. By
his own words he is capable of walking at least a bit, and quite up for a ruck with the cops, but that's irrelevant.
Victims must be believed no matter what
Their truth is so real and vital that facts cannot stand in their way.
Jody lets it be believed that he can't use his legs, so the evidence of him standing and walking must be false. His
claims to have walked up 18 flights of stairs are "dealt with" by making fatuous excuses, and
photographs of him standing unaided are inadmissible because he has "been unable to respond" to them: because what he says about being able to stand trumps photographic evidence of him actually doing so. Nobody is saying that he's capable of running a marathon - but being able to stand and argue, climb stairs, push through police lines and stand on his wheelchair when he wants to, yet being completely immobile when the police want him to move ten feet, is simply not credible.
Dissent must be crushed
The left is unable to argue coherently, because its positions are based largely on feelings - usually White, Middle-class Guilt.
This is why the BNP must not be allowed to speak, why the Grauniad Comment is Free section aggressively moderates posts. Debate might change the minds of The People - who are simultaneously both so naïve that they need to be protected, but also so dangerous that they need to be controlled.
"Because of you have repeatedly strawmanned people in this post and tried to wind people up with ridiculous statements you are no longer allowed to comment here. Doing so any more will earn you a ban."
Comments welcome. I don't ban people.
