I recently remembered the live journal. Then I took a look at it and saw that a bunch of people are still posting stuff, so I thought I would give you all a real treat and come back from my long live journal hiatus. This is the real Return of the King. King Mark that is. I will now update you on my broke, jobless, lazy bum ass. I still have not gotten a job. I have only been on one job interview, and they turned me down. It happened very fast. I sent my resume online at 1:00 last Monday afternoon, they called me by 4:00 and set up an interview Tuesday at 10:00. I talked to five different people, it took about two hours, then I went home, and I got an e-mail telling me they did not want me a few hours later, so by Tuesday afternoon I was once again a jobless loser. I then thought about what I wanted to do with my life. The company was a firm that did accounting for securities, mostly index funds, and I thought it was a great combination of accounting and finance, and that I would do well there, but it was not to be.
The next day, I called a mortgage broker, and he told me to come in and talk to him next Tuesday, which was two days ago. I put my job search on hold until my meeting with the guy, and had a good time over my extended holiday weekend. Lauruhn was in town, and I was housesitting at my aunts. I had all kinds of safe and sane fourth of july fun, including attending a professional rodeo, and seeing spiderman 2.
I went in and met with the real estate guy and he told me to go out right away and get my real estate license, and then he would teach me the business and help me pass all the tests. It wasn't necessarily a job offer. He said his firm would work with me and he would get me started and then I would run my own business, cause real estate is where it is at apparently. I took his advice and ordered the self study package and will work on getting my real estate license. In the meantime, he told me to get a job.
So yesterday was wednesday, and I was still on the job hunt, so I did what any job seeking young graduate would do. I left the house at about 11:30 in order to grab lunch with one of my friends and then see the movie King Arthur which opened yesterday. The movie kind of sucked, but it was worth a couple of hours of entertainment I suppose. Anyway, on my way to my friends house, I got a call from the same company who turned me down last week, and they wanted to interview me again for a different position. So I set up an interview tomorrow at 3:00.
Today I began once again actively working toward working. I sent my resume to a local CPA firm. Although I did not want to work for the firms who recruited from Cal Poly, this one is local and handles smaller clients and I could live here in Sacramento, which was my biggest problem with the Big 4 that I probably could not work here. I also e-mailed my resume to my aunt who I worked for last summer. She started sending it out immediately because I got a call today from a different CPA firm here in town that my aunt sent my resume to. We set up an interview on Monday morning. So there is my life so far. No job yet, but I am taking my time and eventually I will get one. I hope all of you are doing well. If you read this whole damn thing, thank you, and please feel free to leave comments.
