So Amy Winehouse's toxicology reports have come back and she had no drugs in her system when she died.
I did think "HA!" and like i'd won one-up on those people who judged her with things like "who cares, she was just another junkie" that i talked about at the time, but then it occurred to me that it doesn't really matter what she died of, even if she did die of a drug overdose she deserves respect.

I've come to the conclusion that people believe drug-addicts and alcoholics are worthless because they want to believe that addiction is about someone being 'bad' and weak. And people like to think this because then they can fool themselves into thinking that addiction isn't something that could happen to them. But in reality, anyone can become an addict - even if you avoid drugs and drink you can still be addicted to food or exercise or sex - addiction has so many forms.

I've also noticed another thing with Amy's death - how she attracted all these negative attitudes and the criticism of the media... yet male celebrities who have died due to drink and drugs (Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Ryan Dunn come to mind) don't/didn't get the same treatment. There's some blatant sexism going on there. It seems female celebrities are always expected to be good 'role models', and no-one cares about boys having role models...almost as though girls are considered so stupid that they need a celebrity to look up to to decide what's the right way to live?!?! It's ridiculus.

news, stupid world
