That life could be better by being together is what I cannot explain to Jane

So, awesome.

Rehearsal for Marc's web series was super-easy. I only have one line- 4 sentences- I thought we were going to read through the whole episode, but we did my part first. Great to have a director who knows what he wants and gives direction clearly. Read the line a few times, fine-tuning it all the way till the other folks were laughing, then headed out earlier than expected. Looks like we might be filming in NJ instead of NY, which is a bit of a pain, but meh. Also will most likely be taping the morning of the first performance of The Play Plays. So woo, busy that day.
Nice to finally meet Stephen Jutras.

Headed out to The Brick, and arrived super-early in Brooklyn. Alan and I had been chatting before I left the house and he mentioned he was seeing Infectious Opportunity, and I was all "holy cow, so am I!", so when I got there I was about to text him saying, "Hey, I arrived early, if you're in the hood already, gimme a call". I opened up my phone to do so, and got an identical message from him. So we rendezvoused at a nearby Mexican restaurant.
Alan's ukulele experience in Suckers has inspired him to purchase a ukulele of his own- and Guitar Center had just sent him a coupon, so he got a brand new beautiful concert uke. I helped him tune it a little by ear.
Alan's impetus for seeing Infectious Opportunity was that David Ian Lee was in it- he asked me if he'd written it too, and I said no, it's by James Comtois, and his mouth dropped open- he went to college with James' sister Rebecca, who I pointed out is also in the play. So, small world.

Play was great. About a screenwriter who, through a misunderstanding, misleads people into thinking he's HIV-positive, and then continues with the lie when it turns out to be beneficial to his career. Fascinating stuff. A rare case where I wasn't 15 minutes ahead of the story, but reached the same conclusions at the same time as the characters. Great acting across the board.
DR from I Hate Love was also in it, and got to make out with David. Am jealous:

I joked with DR that he gets to make out with all the hot guys in plays and he said Blaine from I Hate Love is a bit of a cold fish onstage. Hélas.

It's awkward being nominated for the Planet Connections Awards now that the NYIT Awards have just been announced- it's harder to brag, people assume right away that one is nominated for an NYIT.

Tony had e-mailed me earlier in the day asking if I wanted to come check out the new "Just Broadway" open mic they have Tuesday nights at Don't Tell Mama- they've been going for 3 weeks now. It's in the back cabaret room every week through the end of August (for now). Alan came along with me, and we had a nice time. Adam Shorsten was there- says hi to those of you he knows. He did a little "Got a Lot of Living To Do". I got up later to sing "Lost in the Wilderness", and despite the tempo being WAY too slow, I got woots and hollers from the black dudes in the back during my riffing, so that went well. Tony did "Piragua", then "Make them Hear You". After it was over, we walked out through the main piano bar, and they were playing "Moondance" for a bunch of tourists who were lapping it up. Not that it's not a great song (_chandra's favorite, in fact), but this is why the "Just Broadway" open mic is necessary. If I go next week, I'll see about bringing sheet music.

This afternoon going to look at a new apartment in Spanish Harlem, which looks gorgeous. Two-bedroom and huge (though $1000 more per month than we want to spend- if it's as awesome as advertised, gonna see if I can dicker with the landlord (who is an artist and I'm told has a soft spot in that area)). Then Andrew and I can finally make our decision on where we're going to live.

Then tonight speaking at a TRU Panel "Producing in Hard Times" at The Players Theater at 7:30.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): The seductive torments of insatiable desires are leaving you in peace, at least for now. That means you're free to concentrate on the easier gratification of more satiable desires. I hope you're open to that, Gemini; I hope you haven't fallen for the illusion that hard-to-get pleasures are deeper and finer. Please believe me when I tell you that you're ready to exult and bask in the simple joys.
