I'm posting from the Dunkin' Donuts on 37th & 8th. They have an Internet Café upstairs now! Super-cool!
Had a lovely brunch yesterday with
carasol and
son_of_ottie. Garden Café has enclosed part of their back garden for the Winter- I was wondering about that. Mmm, eggs benedict with friends.
Last night went to
Theatre of the Expendable's "recession party" fundraiser- it was at Gowanus space in Brooklyn. $10, all you can drink. Drank lots of boxed white wine. Got to meet most of the TotE regular crew- when I met Jesse, the other artistic director (I met Alan the other night), he was thrilled to meet me. They're very impressed by my work, and kept telling everyone what an incredible writer I am, which was very gratifying and embarrassing. Jesse had just come from rehearsal, directing their production of Three Sisters, which sounds really cool- they're only using nine performers, and having them double in contrasting ways- e.g. Masha and Natasha are played by the same actress. Looking forward to it- I said I'd house-manage one night. We geeked about Chekhov a bit. Alan was jealous that I got to see Chekhov Lizardbrain (and was very excited when I mentioned The Starship Astrov.
Justin, a very pretty boy, was a lot of fun- though he seems to think he's heterosexual (though I did end up groping his ass, with his permission). I met a girl named Mim, who was apparently in
ceebeegee's Romeo and Juliet (all the minor girls with their hair up in hats blended together for me in that). Also dug big fag-hag Debra, who filled me in on who slept with who in college. Most of them know each other from going to Vassar together. They're just adorable, sweet people.
There was a moment when it seemed that they were going to order from
DUB Pies (which thrilled me (and
carasol, when I texted her) immensely), but it turned out they were closed when they called. So there was really good pizza instead.
ladypeculiar's friend Richard was there. Told us about an interesting play he's writing, based on computer text gaming.
Alan gave me a big hug when I left- seemed really thrilled that I'm not only brilliant, but also a super-nice and fun guy. Love these folks.
This afternoon went with Patricia to see Heather in
Synaesthetic Theatre Company's The Empire's New Clothes. Very interesting movement-oriented telling of The Emperor's New Clothes, using it as a metaphor for the current financial crisis.
Off to review Parking Lot Lonely Heart, the last of Boomerang's shows tonight. Jim Allen's coming along as my plus-one.
