Planned to post this yesterday, but the library has cut back on hours since the last time I was here, so I got here too late to use the 'net. So please excuse the lapse in time:
So, lost my job yesterday. I sent out a polite e-mail to 5 folks at Media Conglomerate saying that I'd be leaving in a week, and since all of them had expressed interest in my theatre work before, that if they wanted to stay apprised they were welcome to sign up for my mailing list.
Hottie Jack immediately signed up and sent me a nice e-mail saying "Noooo, can't believe you're going, say goodbye before you leave".
..apparently someone passed it on to Denise, the supervisor, who freaked out and called the temp company, who called me late last night and told me that my job had suddenly ended.
Of course they waited till I was already gone, so I have some personal artifacts, books, plays, etc. still there; someone from Temp Company is to go collect them today.
And I'll need to rewrite my Summer and Smoke review, which is annoying.
Temp Company said they'll see what else they can get me, and I'm at the top of their list. It's all super-lame, especially since I'll be moving in a little more than a week. SUCK.
In the meantime, before I got the call from Temp Company, I met with Laura, the Director of Ore, or Or, and Alan, the Artistic Director of Theatre of the Expendable. We had thai food at a place on 2nd avenue, which was very nice. Talked about the show- they're both very impressed with the script. I knew that they were doing several readings of new plays as part of their December run (They're doing Three Sisters, with new plays in the dark nights), but what I didn't realize is that only Ore, or Or and another piece are actually getting workshops (e.g. several rehearsals, a few performances); the rest are all just getting one-night readings.
Laura seems very on-the-ball, has some neat ideas about what to do with the piece. She's planning to use the actors I recommended for some of the roles- she's meeting with Shawn and Sacha on Monday, and had just spoken on the phone to
ceebeegee Left them all excited, then got the message from Temp Company. Wooo.
Then there was the Small Pond Hold for the Laughs evening- It was sold out and very crowded, and didn't get much networking done, though someone from
HOME for Theatre Performers said she'll be sending out a call for scripts sometime soon, and wanted to make sure that I was on her mailing list. Also met an adorable tech dude named Josh.
Show was good, comedians were actually quite funny- Giulia Rozzi, John Mulaney, Dan Mintz and Demetri Martin. All of them have theirname.com, if you want to check them out.
Got to spend a little time with Tony my Tony, and then we went out for a drink at Mercury Bar. Reminisced, had a good time. He's comfortingly the same. He's been very busy, and has decided to make an effort to get out of the house and do fun things more often, so hopefully I'll see him again soon. He was kind enough to drive me home.
In other news, my computer sound had not been working since I got my new hard drive. I suspected I just needed to download a driver. I called Dell with my computer number, and the salesman I spoke to wouldn't put me through to a tech person unless I was sitting in front of the computer in question. I explained several times that I have no Internet on the computer in question, and I just wanted to ask which driver to download, but he wouldn't put me through to someone who might actually know what they were talking about.
So I went to the Dell site and downloaded the three possible drivers for my machine to my flash drive, brought them home, installed the one I thought was most likely, and bingo, now I have sound! In conclusion, San Dimas High School Football rules.
Mailed out my copy of The Starship Astrov to Resonance Ensemble today, then (finally) watched Mirrormask, and sulked. Mirrormask was beautiful- was impressed how well Dave McKean's art translates to film.
Tonight going to Drunken! Careening! Writers!, then to Jim Allen's 20th anniversary at Marie's Crisis.
