British usage question

Question for you British folks: is the phrase "X folded his hands" (meaning this) an Americanism? Or at least a phrase that's not used in British English?

If it's not British, how would you describe someone doing that with their hands?

Many thanks!

ETA: It's not the interlacing of the fingers that's the crucial part of what I mean, it's putting the hands together. It's for a story--the character's hands are shaking and he's trying to hide the fact.
