I just finished "The Masque of Mandragora," which was dull and occasionally laughable (it's a bad idea to write in a big masque scene if you can only afford to hire about six extras). But Giuliano and Marco were very very gay together. So gay that it was only barely subtext. That made me happy. I like to imagine Doctor Who sending out subliminal

oh god YES. This was the very first old Who episode I ever saw, and I was absolutely riveted by the incredible gay of those two.

Early on I kept thinking, "They can't possibly be MEANT to seem this gay." And then Giuliano introduced Marco to the Doctor and Sarah: "This is Marco, my [meaningful pause] companion." So I decided that it probably was.
