Owen Beach Closes
The Coast Watch has closed Owen Beach, Harbour after unsafe riptide conditions led to five rescues involving ten swimmers Trewsday. Beach guard Ken Carson told Dragon Valley News that the most challenging rescue occurred around nones, when a nine year old girl and her uncle were pulled offshore. They were almost 200 yards out to sea when the beach guards observed their difficulty.
Carson said it took four guards more than half a glass to return them to shore. Carson gave full credit to the girl's uncle for keeping her head above water, according to reports, the girl claimed that it felt like something had "grabbed her leg and was pulling her down".
