Yesterday, I ate cake

Birthday cake. 2 (small) slices. In the morning.

I experienced trouble focusing my eyes for most of the day and last night I woke up a time or two with my left hand numb (why the left hand? Is it related to the rheumatoid arthritis I experienced at age 4?) And my ring did not fit when I tried to put it on upon awakening - though it's been my experience that when my hand is tingling at that time, it will not fit.

Today I am up early to start pie-making. I will make a nut-cookie crust apple, one regular ("Mom and") apple pie, 1 or 2 pumpkin pies (from the Samhain sacrifices) and 1 mince tart. Have to be careful with the last - that's mine alone. I cut the added sugar in it with a whole raw apple, cored and diced but otherwise untreated and only use half a jar of the mince.

I'm also planning to go out this morning to donate blood.

I started reading another story yesterday before my brain protested. The King of Ireland's Son - Mac Rìgh Eirinn. What attracted my attention was the prince musing that he would only marry a woman with hair as black as the raven's wing and cheeks as red as the raven's blood. No snow, however, but having recently read Indexing by Seanan McGuire, the phrase strongly resonated and I'm intrigued to see what would happen.

I don't think I mentioned it at the time, but I did a fasting blood glucose test Saturday - it was 89.
