A few months back, I switched my family to fortnightly trash pick-up. Every other week, we put our bins out on Sunday evening for Monday morning pick-up. This week was no different - we were back in time to remind B (who does the actually collection of bags & recyclables for putting out) and he wheeled the bins to the kerb as per usual.
When I returned from cycling Monday morning, I noticed a piece of paper hanging out of the garbage bin - it was a (badly) photocopied flyer proclaiming some undisclosed change in pick-up service and informing us that we had already been informed of this change via a phone call. (Garbage was still in the bin, and so were the recyclables in the other.)
Umm ... no.
B doesn't answer the phone. When he does answer it, he doesn't reliably take messages. Anything from an anonymous, private or blocked number he will not answer at all. Besides which, I get enough e-mails from the trash service - they could have informed us that way. (I checked - there was nothing).
I called the number on the bill. The service representative told me that there wasn't supposed to be any change in our delivery date, that - yes, they do use the automated truck to pick up the bins (that was another announced change) and, furthermore, that only one of my neighbours uses their service, someone further up the road whom I don't know.
HOWEVER, I noticed later that at least 5 households on this end of the road have the same kind of bins and had the flyer hanging the garbage bin. So, now, I'm doubting that the representative knew what she was talking about.
She did put in a service call to the truck who came back around to pick up the garbage. Not the recyclables - just the garbage. That's not critical at this point, I specifically wanted the garbage picked up because of the meat scraps in it. But I want to make a point to post this reminder in case they decide not to pick up again in two weeks time.
