Dialann - dead mouse and other stinks

I was down in the basement several times yesterday, never noticed a thing. B went down after dinner, smelled something funny and went looking. Dead mouse in a trap on the ledge behind the water-heater & furnace, right next to the casement window. MOST awkward place. We called M down to help with the removal as I knew from the first that *I* wouldn't be able to manage. Too short (that's the difficulty of being hobbit-like in a tallman world). Unfortunately, it was VERY awkwardly placed and the capture-stick just pushed it further back to even more awkwardness. Finally, I got another stick and a folding chair and manage to place the latter in such a position that I could use the former to push the horrid thing onto the floor. Not easy even so, I was working blind (and even blinder as my son holding the torch kept turning it away whenever his dad moved to get a better position.) Finally, mission accomplished, stink-source removed, stink ... unfortunately ... remained which, indirectly, is why I am blogging at just before 6 of the a.m. I deliberately did not push the door entirely too in case SC found the stench to be too much for her. She found this out at 5 this morning and decided to come roust me out of bed. Out of a sound sleep and deep dream.

Later in the night, a skunk was startled outside toward the back of the house, necessitating the powering off of the fan in the bedroom window. M hadn't noticed because the he was hard at work in the office with the a/c on, installing LINUX in his birthday present, consulting with his desktop pc from time to time. The older computer runs very hot - which is the reason we have the a/c unit in there.

Yesterday, I cycled from one end of the Assabet River Rail-Trail to the other - 5.8 mi. (The last mile of the trail is from my terminus turn-off for home to the trail-head, so I rode that twice.) While I was out (in the car) running errands and getting groceries, I picked up a mini-tripod that could be attached to the front of the bicycle basket - now to see if I can video tape the trail to use as an exercise video come the bad weather this winter. I plan to record the ride three times, using different angles, and have asked B to make a single narrative of the film using the sound-track from Fellowship of the Rings (which I know like for exercising).
