Thursday 23rd

- These gigs were my first ventures into Manchester so when I wasn't gigging I tried to see as much as I could. Jonathan and I went to the Temple Bar which is tiny little underground pub that is the o/~ hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall. :) Station Approach was playing on the jukebox as we walked in - perfect!

- It was freezing waiting outside, Jonathan and I got there 2 hours before doors and there was no one around at all. A girl turned up shortly afterwards and waited with us, her name's Olivia and our Elbow enthusiasm has bonded us closely ever since, haha. You'll most likely see her mentioned in most future Elbow posts!

- In the gig we got talking to the couple next to us since I overheard them say something about Delamere... then a young guy behind us also joined in when he heard mention of Delamere - turns out the young guy, Matt, had just been backstage... Bare with me, this is a bit of a long story! One of Matt's friends said that his girlfriend's mum was looking for someone to teach her clarinet lessons, Matt plays clarinet so said he would do it. It turns out that this lady he was then giving clarinet lessons too had a step-son who was doing some work for Elbow. Who was the son? None other than Matt Skinner, one of the roadies!! I count Matt and Wayne as the main roadies since you see them on-stage the most, haha.

So Matt Skinner's mum said that the band had been looking for someone to help with getting the tabs down for a TSSK guitar tab book, of course this young guy Matt said he would jump at the chance to do it. Don't know if he's had continual involvement with the band after that but what a fantastic story! Matt was going to the afterparty and had one spare wristband for it... he gave it to us but it was Delamere all over again - there were two of us and it wouldn't have been fair for only one of us to go in. So I just kept hold of it in the hopes that I might be able to get into the next week's afterparty... to be continued.

- Guy tried to introduce his dad to the audience (some random guy put his hand up haha "You're not my dad... nice try though!" but he wasn't there... apparently it's next week instead that his dad is going to be there "Shit. ...Shit. ...I fucked it."

- Guy told a story about the Roadhouse (I think it was) where he used to work, and there was a guy who would spend every day in there playing pool. Ten minutes before last orders he would go around everyone in the pub and ask rather frantically "Are you ok? Have you got a drink?" and buy everyone in the pub a drink. Everyone was rather confused and didn't really know what to do, then the guy would say... "Happy days!" (said in a very pained voice, hehe)

- Guy on Weather To Fly: "This song's about these cunts." Shocking, Guy, shocking. Lots of swearing from Guy in this gig, perhaps because they were back on home turf and felt a bit more comfortable. :)

- Station Approach, o/~ I haven't seen my dad for weeks

- You know someone's a serial Elbow junkie when they start getting the roadies' setlists as well as the band's. I was trying to get one and they had all been taken, so Matt Skinner, the absolutel darling that he is, went off-stage and brought back his teachie setlist for me which has all of Mark Potter's guitar changes on it!

Thursday 30th

- I was on my own for this gig and was the first one to turn up at the venue, again shortly joined by Olivia. It was lovely to have company! Also met her friends Shirley and Chris who are equally as lovely.

- Olivia told me about a band called Meadow who once supported Elbow long ago, she either knew people in this band or involved with them. When they had arrived at the venue, wafted around for a bit and eventually found their way to their dressing room, they opened the door and it was pitch black inside. Upon switching on the lights... a huge "SURPRISE!!" from the middle of the room, Guy had just been standing in there for who knows how long waiting for them to arrive! Very silly but cute. :)

- Guy revealed that Great Expectations was written 18 years ago, on the 135 bus to Bury which was in fact the first concertina bus in Europe.

- Richard randomly reaching over and poking Guy in the side with a drumstick, haha!

- Chris managed to get Mark's setlist and he let me take a photo of it. :D

- Didn't manage to get in to the afterparty as the wristbands were a different colour to the previous week's, big fat fail.
