Blackwork on smock progress

I was supposed to be at MAAS this weekend, which is why I started this project to work on and teach kids there. But my friend who was providing a ride, got very sick, and my off-hand is sore, and I have other issues, so no travel this weekend.

Thankfully my working hand is fine, and the fabric on the hoop stand means I don't have to do much with my off-hand so it can still rest and heal, and I want to continue with the embroidery since I can't do much sewing or much of anything else that requires two hands. So I took a progress shot from this afternoon so folks can see what it is I am doing.

The fabric was bought at Joanns, and is a 32 count Belgian linen in white. Nothing special as the smock will probably go through lots of washings like the first shirt did. Because of that, I am using DMC #12 cotton perle for the thread - heavier than I am used to, but I liked the impact it provides compared to a single strand of DMC embroidery floss. I did not want to use more than one strand of thread as I didn't like how that looked.

I do like how the pattern is working up pretty quickly. I want to make other little things with it to make as gifts, although not sure what beyond a needlebook cover, maybe a pincushion, and a biscornu - 'tho' what that is supposed to be used in a modern world for folks who are not sewers?? It is cute, so I'll make one at least.

More later.
