Heraldic embroidery nearly done

Jan 29, 2012 00:05

I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I've been off my computer for the past several days, so I can focus as much time towards completing this project as I can. It has to be finished in a couple of weeks for the competition, and it has to have documentation, too. If possible, I'd like for it to be in its final form as a casket/box, which means even less time remains to finish the embroidery.

I think it will be done in only a few more days. The center device is done. All of the vines are now done (just finished). I was going to do the device on a blue silk piece, then sew it down onto the main fabric with padding, but the Or nue started pulling & puckering the silk, so I gave up and worked directly on the main fabric, using long & short with dark blue silk thread instead.

I have flower centers and lots of spangles left to apply.

I have to admit it is beautiful, as I frequently stop & just stare at it. My skills are still rough, it is the beauty of the design, the blend of colors, and the sparkle of gold that make me gaze at it in wonder. I marvel at the original creator whose work I followed.

I wonder if a casket cover is really the best use for this piece, but I can't see it being on a wall. This piece needs to be seen in the sunlight from time to time, to capture the sparkle of the gold. I'm now realizing I may be too afraid to damage it if I use it on a working casket. I'll figure something out.

I did post a photo, but I'm using my iPhone to post this entry, so not knowing how big the photo will be, it is behind this cut.
