JunSu placed his phone on his bedside table. If only Jae Joong hyeong knew what he had for dinner or to be exact who had been coming to cook dinner for the past few days. JunSu shook his head slowly as he tried to forget the face that kept popping into his head the whole day. The grinning face of Park YooChun.
Flash back
“Do you need a hand Dr. Park?” ChangMin asked as he saw the older man struggling up the stairs with his bags of groceries.
“Um…no thanks, thanks for the opening the door for me though.” The dentist dimpled.
JunSu had stepped out of his office and was currently glaring at both ChangMin who let the man in and at YooChun the man who currently tops on his most annoying person list.
“What are you doing?” JunSu asked the moment ChangMin disappeared into one of the store rooms.
“You could give me a hand you know.” YooChun nudged JunSu with a bulging plastic bag, forcing him to take it.
JunSu had no choice but to allow YooChun upstairs and into his apartment.
JunSu had then left YooChun there and only returned 2 hours later. What greeted him, truly surprised him. If breakfast this morning was good, dinner was even better.
YooChun fried some squid, steamed chicken and lastly there was spicy tofu and crab stew. YooChun also brought a container of his very own homemade kimchi.
Junsu’s mouth watered as the smell of the aged kimchi rose to his nostrils. He accepted his bowl of rice and ate. He ate some much he thought he’s stomach was going to burst. Even the plain white rice tasted good.
JunSu hardly uttered a word during dinner. It was YooChun who spoke, telling him about some of his patients and what had happened today. It was as if a dinner between two old friends only that it wasn’t. YooChun was determined to change JunSu’s mind and heart.
After dinner, YooChun refused his offer to help clean up. So JunSu sat watched some TV but kept an eye on YooChun. The moment he finished in the kitchen JunSu stood up.
“Thank you for dinner. You didn’t have to, you know.” Junsu began walking towards the door.
“Wait, JunSu.” YooChun hurried after him.
“What?” JunSu stopped walking but refused to face YooChun.
YooChun stepped up and stood right next to him. “Can I see you tomorrow?”
End of flashback.
~..~..~..~
“JunSu?” JunSu groaned as he suddenly remembered that YooChun was still here.
“Didn’t you leave?” JunSu pretended to be annoyed, as he waited for YooChun to answer.
“I was just about to.” JunSu saw YooChun playing with the apron’s string, God knows where he procured that apron from. It had ‘I’m My Boyfriend’s Personal Chef’ in bold letters across it. Junsu cringed each time his eyes strayed there.
“JunSu?” JunSu held his breath, for the last 3 days, YooChun had been coming everyday to cook him dinner, and each time the similar scenario would replay itself, JunSu asking YooChun when he’s leaving and YooChun asking for a date or JunSu for his answer. Each time JunSu ignored him.
“What?” JunSu had thought of an answer.
“I can’t come tomorrow.” YooChun took a step closer. “I have a dental seminar to attend tomorrow. In fact it runs the entire weekend.”
Crushed, JunSu hoped it didn’t show on his face. But he said nothing.
“So I just wanted you to know that, I cooked some extra food and I put it in the freezer.” YooChun took a deep breath. “So if you’re hungry, you could just pop it in the microwave and warm it up.”
“Thanks.” JunSu mumbled.
“What baby? What did you say?” YooChun boldly used the term of endearment.
Rolling his eyes, JunSu just huffed and sat down on the wide bench.
“Oh come on, it doesn’t hurt to say it out loud you know.” YooChun pouted as he sat down next to JunSu.
Both men sat in silence. One watching the stars, the other watching the star gazer. A few more minutes, YooChun took the hint and reluctantly left. Relieved JunSu lowered his head and used his linked fingers as a pillow as he studied the star studded sky.
The entire weekend without that nosy YooChun, JunSu grinned. He could stop worrying when YooChun was going to pop in. YooChun had a bad habit of doing so, unannounced as if he owned the place.
But by Saturday afternoon JunSu had to admit it, he was bored and in fact expecting YooChun to just burst through that door, saying that there had been a change of plans. And soon the smell of something delicious would be wafting down the stairs. That didn’t happen.
Instead Sunday came and JunSu began the day in a bad temper. He had forgotten to switch on the rice cooker, so he had no rice to go with YooChun’s delicious fish stew and homemade kimchi. But he ate it all anyway minus the rice.
Later that evening JunSu then went for a workout at the local gym. After 2 hours, freshly showered but exhausted JunSu wearily climbed the stairs to his abode. He flung down his gym bag and grabbed a drink from the fridge. He eyes fell on a carton of juice. YooChun’s. He had brought it with the rest of the groceries when he last visited. He took a healthy swig of the juice instead. Damn that man, he’s reminded about him by just looking at a carton of juice? JunSu shook his head, he must be losing his mind or his heart.
Curling up on the wide bench, with a fashion magazine, JunSu eventually fell asleep.
That was how YooChun found him, an hour later. YooChun took an early train back and called ChangMin on the phone. He only had to ask once for the code to unlock both the main door and the door upstairs.
Flash back
ChangMin had apologized, saying that he only knew the codes to the main entrance of the building. The code for the apartment upstairs was only known to JunSu alone. YooChun had been surprised at the numbers. They were Jae Joong’s birth date. He wondered about the other code. Could it be…?
Puzzled, he heard KyuHyun chuckling at the back.
“What is so funny KyuHyun ssi?” YooChun demanded.
“Forgive him, Dr. Park.” Changmin quickly apologized before having the phone snatched from his hand.
“Dr. Park this is KyuHyun.” An unnecessary intro as YooChun recognized that voice very well. “We just want to wish you the very best! We’re on your side. Fighting Dr. Park!!”
YooChun had to move the phone away from his ear as both men’s voices screamed at his ear drum. “Er…Thanks.”
End of flashback
YooChun softly tiptoed towards the sleeping figure. He tucked in his bejeweled necklace before slowly lowering himself next to JunSu. Propping himself up with his elbow, he watched JunSu sleep. YooChun wondered if he dared to sweep that loose strand on JunSu’s forehead when JunSu began muttering in his sleep.
Smiling, YooChun thought JunSu was having a dream, but a few seconds later, he knew it was instead a nightmare. JunSu was crying and obviously in pain as he twisted his body, arms flaying about. YooChun knew he had to wake JunSu.
“JunSu, JunSu.”He gently shook JunSu, so not to startle him. “Wake up, love.” YooChun gathered JunSu in his arms resting his head on his shoulder.
JunSu continued sobbing, holding on to YooChun tightly. YooChun knew that JunSu was still dreaming, still asleep or JunSu wouldn’t be holding on to him like this. YooChun murmured soothing noises as he rubbed JunSu back. When suddenly YooChun felt JunSu stiffen, he knew JunSu had woken up.
“What the hell?” JunSu roughly pushed YooChun away, as he scrambled away. Embarrassed he quickly wiped his face with the palms of his hands. “What are you doing here?”
“Thanks YooChun.” YooChun didn’t smile.
“I said what are you doing here?” JunSu’s shivered. JunSu was covered in sweat and the cool evening air was giving his sweaty body the chill.
“Maybe it’s better if you changed.” YooChun stood up and pulled JunSu with him.
“What are you doing? Hey!” JunSu tried to pull his hand away, but YooChun was too strong.
YooChun gently pushed him into his room and shut the door. He then proceeded to the kitchen to make some tea.
