Shaking once again, without control her words didn't do much better. Stuttering out each sound which she tried to answer with, were leaving the officials questions unanswered. She didn't have time for this. For nothing. She had to get Megan out of the City. Pushing aside the fact that she obviously could do nothing about, pleads rushed from her mouth as she silently swore she'd save Megan.
" We have to get out of the city! "
" Why? "
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, there's a bomb in Los Angels, that'll go off at any time today. Sure, that would go over real nicely. Also a silenced promise for her father prevented her answer. Vexation screamed from her frequent sighs as an answer was obviously avoided. An irritated and appalled look was given from the boy she put all her trust in. Despite his pleas and wants for her honesty, she only revealed the small girl will not be safe.
" Without some more information I'm going to have to bring you in. "
" ... Contact my Father at CTU. Jack Bauer. He'll tell you everything you need to know. "
Even with that said, fears flashed before her eyes that it may be to late.
An unwelcoming transport to a station separated her from the only man who believed her, and a child whom she swore she'd protect. Her heart and breathing never went back to normal as she seemed to wait for the explosion that would end the lives of many. Becoming quickly sickened at the thought and obviously uncomfortable, her thoughts where soon broken by the police officials laughter.
" Your friend's got quite a head on his shoulders! He told the other officer you were leavin' town because of a bomb. Ahaha. Kids today. "
Well, he wasn't far from the truth but she knew that story wouldn't go over easily.
" Please call my Father at CTU. He'll explain everything. "
Sensing the teen was not completely off her rocker, nor trying to play games, silence quickly took over his laughter and replaced his comedic attitude with a more tenacious one. Pausing only briefly a free hand dialed a familiar number of dispatch and requested to be put through to the FBI.
" We're sorry Sir, all lines have been jammed. "
The news obviously didn't sit well with the trusted law official as a single trembled hold clenched the radio, unknowingly. Something was wrong.
The time which was given to them was quickly running out. A cold, depressing building, also known as the highway patrol station, quickly registered in her mind as the last place she'd be alive. Interrogated and treated as though a criminal her story hadn't changed. She had no story. Only the need to flee from this city. Her silence and pleas to be released resulted in a single phone call.
" CTU, Michelle speakin-- "
" Michelle! It's Kimberly Bauer, I need to speak with my dad immediately. "
" I'm sorry Kim, he's out on assignment. "
" No, I need to talk to him right away. I was arrested and charged with Murder. You need to get him now. "
As if her own building exploding and having to rescue what little survivors there were, was enough to be called " all in a day's work. " the shocked employee reached for the agent, Jack Bauer, and held a connected line while still concentrating on the tasks at hand. The nervous operator, and well known employee at CTU, continually wiped the dried blood from her beaten hands, and smog covered clothing, she still carried on what mattered most.
" Jack, I have your daughter on the line. She seems to be in trouble. "
" Dad! I need you. "
As the specialized agent's mind and attention was pulled in a dozen different directions the sound of his daughter's voice somewhat overrode everything else.
" Sweetie, what's wrong? What happened? Are you hurt? "
" No, no. Everything's okay. Except .. " Becoming quickly choked up in her words and emotions, the words following made little to no sense.
" Except what ? "
" C-carla. ... She's dead Dad! Gary killed her. I was leaving the city like you told me with Miguel and Megan, and her body was in the trunk Dad. I need you to come here and get me. I'm so scared. "
Her pleads and fear filled the father's being with anger. Anger with whomever was responsible for her pain and anguish to repay them 10 fold. While comforting words and a superior voice started to calm her fears, work interfered yet again. Nina Myers, a traitor, a fake, and a murdering terrorist, caught his attention's ear from his current position. The need, the want to be right next to his daughter had been put on hold. If he wanted to be able to keep her safe he'd have to keep listening to Nina's unknown language towards her partner, Faheen.
Confusion as well as impatience overpowered the young girl's plead.
" Dad! Are you there? Aren't you listening to me? "
" Yeah, yeah Sweetie. Just hang on. Michelle can you translate what they're saying? "
Baffled from what seemed so obvious that her own father, her own flesh and blood was taking work over her, once again made the tears flow quicker. Questions and disbelief covered his daughter's visage. His pleas to be a family again. His wants to be there and protect her. His promise that he'd never let anything happen to her again. That what happened to them in the past would never happen again, all seemed to shatter like glass.
" Dad! I need you here. Come pick me up. "
Maybe she seemed a little needy, and childish, but when she thought right down to it, she hadn't asked for his help, since the death of her mother. That day, she'd lost all faith him in, and it seemed her trust was going down hill once again.
" Sweetie, you need to hang on. Michelle, get Mason or someone to pick up Kim. Bring her to CTU, get her somewhere safe, please. "
Losing what quick connection she held to the last person left her in life, she cursed the air. When she asked for his help, he was not there. Sure she didn't feel only hatred, but the sense of being chosen second over her father's work, hadn't failed her yet again. Soiled in tears a drenched hand returned the receiver to the holster. Yanked and pulled around corners, hands completely inadequate thanks to the cuffs behind her, she had no other choice. Her father wasn't going to save her, it was up to her to save who ever was going to believe her. Pushed the final time for an answer about them escaping the city, silently the fearful girl asked her father for forgiveness.
Forgive me Dad, if you even care.
" There's a Nuclear Bomb going off in Los Angeles ... today. "
