Where stuff comes from, looking back
For some reason, I got to thinking today about the things various people have introduced into my life ... for better or for worse. Some of these things became long-term interests ... and some not so much.
my mom: too many to list, but including fine art (esp. Monet, van Gogh, Picasso, Canaletto, Alma-Tadema, etc.), The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Stephen King, Shakespeare, museums (of all sorts), Europe and Great Britain, libraries, true crime, independent film, mythology, Celtic music
my dad: too many to list, but including many vegetables (esp. summer squash), Kurt Vonnegut, the Sword of Shannara series, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kris Kristofferson, Brian Froud, Cribbage (card game),
John (junior high and high school neighbor and close friend): Depeche Mode
Lisa (high school best friend): historical romance novels
Bethany (college roommate): "Days of Our Lives," Disney's The Little Mermaid, "The Cat in the Hat" (cartoon), "What's Opera, Doc?"
Donald (one-time boyfriend and long-time close friend): Monty Python, Umberto Eco, Zachary's Pizza, Spike and Mike's Festival of Animation (incl. Wallace and Grommet, and that little dog who always popped the balloons on stage), The Blues Brothers
Michelle (friend): The House Jacks
Dave (momentary boyfriendish thing and long-time friend): Jonathan Richman, Liz Phair, The Pogues, Daniel Pinkwater

Andrew (close friend): High Tech Burrito, Baja Fresh
Lisa (close friend): borscht, gazpacho, The Chronicles of Narnia, lots and lots of anime (esp. "Paradise Kiss," "Fruits Basket," etc.), xkcd, lots of unfamiliar food (nothing comes to mind at the moment)
