One of my FB friends' status yesterday was "[X] would like to welcome America to the mid-20th Century". I'll admit, that made me laugh.

I honestly don't understand why caring about and providing for the health and wellness of all Americans, equally, is considered so un-American. Perhaps the dissenters are taking Lady Liberty too literally. She says Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Clearly there's no mention of illness being acceptable. Probably realized the error of her ways with the mention of the homeless. :D

I read all my news from UK papers and someone there commented something about America being slightly more like Europe now and how relieved they were. Imagine how relieved we are (or will be once the facts overcome the constant stream of stupidity and fear).

I'm surprised Republicans haven't climbed up the Lady's dress and spray painted over the homeless mention.

the sky is falling! the sky is falling!!

Politics and religion irritate the shit out of me, whether discussing it or listening to another person ranting about it (especially when they are in the wrong... lol - not aimed at you).

I just try to keep my mouth shut, which is extremely hard for me. Case in point: calling a coworker brainwashed the other day because she was using the bible as a reason why homosexuality is wrong.

Whoops. :)

I know what you mean. I don't talk about it unless I feel like I'll explode if I don't. I don't want to impose my beliefs or feelings on anyone else and I'd like it very much if they'd stop trying to push theirs on me (especially when they are in the wrong).

I won't even to begin to start in on homophobia. I've got enough "you have got to be shitting me" brimming over right now to open up that can of worms.

People hated Social Security, Medicare, and Civil Rights legislation at first too. One of these days people will look back and be shocked that there wasn't universal healthcare and that the government had usurped the right of individuals to decide who they were allowed to love.

yup yup yup

We hate change.

I just hope the idiots don't use their current anger to do something stupid, specifically racially.
