Aaah, this, I think, may be your problem. I look at ratings and if I am confused in any way, or if there’s something contained in those ratings that I don’t like, I move on. To see NC17 and not see this “Dean/Sam” was confusing, so I figured you’d forgotten the ‘slash’ between Dean and Sam (which would mean Wincest and SO not my cup of tea). Yet with the rating for graphic sex, and there being kidnapped boys and OC’s I figured there might be some non-con sex or something.

So you see how assumptions about the story are made with ratings? Ratings can drive some readers off, probably the ones you want, and entice others in that maybe you don’t want and who will get to the end of the story and grill you about why you rated it for something that wasn’t there. It’s a tricky game, these ratings are, but they work in tandem with the story summary to draw a reader in, or keep them out.

So here’s the break down for you:

Gen means only that, gen. There's no pairing in the story at all; no wincest, het or m/m or f/f (Male/Male or Female/Female), just none at all.

NC-17 ratings means the story contains graphic sex, either non-con or consensual or both. Just graphic sex at some point of the story.

So, in a nutshell, here’s the guidelines:

-PG or PG13, for Gen and Het stories with no sex, no language and no disturbing imagery
-R for stories with non explicit sex, language and gore
-M or NC17 for explicit sex

Then again, I’m not gonna rate my PG13 story with an R just because one character throws one “fuck” out there. Instead, I’ll say that its a PG13 with warnings for language.

So there you go! Hope this helped and I'll definitely go back and re-read the first chapter. I squinted at it when it first posted, worried at how graphic it might get... My eyes will be wide open now :D
