You'd have thought that Spring Break would be a good time for me to get things done, but nope. Seems this week was my "cross stuff off the list" week. :P Also, my mom and I worked everything out, which really helped.
Up first, I finished my thesis proposal on Monday, editted Tuesday (for grammar and clarity) and sent it to my adviser the same day. We'll see what he says, but I'm feeling better in general about the whole thesis/research thing.
Part of that is I got some feedback from the Hyperchem peeps about how to use their product, part of it is because I found out my adviser had the instruction manuals in his office and I was able to get them (so NOW I can read and figure out what the hell I'm doing), and finally part of it is I spoke with our department head about the whole situation.
He assured me I will be coming back next fall and that my only goal at this point is do the proposal and get a grade for it (so the incomplete doesn't change to an "F"). If things don't work out with my adviser after that, then the department head told me he'd find another project for me to complete in a year's time.
He's super awesome like that. I may have to make him something to thank him for being who he is (I'm thinking a teddy bear, as that's what he reminds me of).
I'm mostly caught up on school work/homework, so that's good. Have a bunch to do this weekend, but that's because of a test Wednesday that I must study for.
I also managed to get an article about digitigraded legs written for the Silicon Valley section of the ICG (Phil, the head of their webzine, asked me to), so that's done as well. The legs aren't done, but I think the article is decent, so we'll see what he says when he gets back to me.
As far as costumes go (aka, the most exciting thing), I was chatting with Mijan (who cosplays a mean Jack Frost ala "Rise of the Guardians") and I think I must make a Bunnymund fursuit in the near future (group cosplay ideas!). I actually sort of have it figured out in my head, and Arisia (a convention I haven't been to yet, but want to hit) might be a good place to display E. Aster. It's next January, so that's my goal (and will be my celebration for getting my masters done BECAUSE IT WILL FREAKING BE DONE BY THEN!!! NO, IT WILL BE!!!).
I finished the costume I will be wearing while helping with the Future Fashion Folio costest. It started as one of the patterns in the FFF and then evolved into something much more me. Kind of gangster-punk servant (and makes me think post-apocalypse a little). I will take pics, but it really could benefit from a whip/riding crop, which I will be getting tomorrow while in Boulder (I do love the Fascinations sex shop that is close to my comic book store).
I've also been working on the petticoat for my historical entry (which no one will see, but still). That one... well, there's a free pattern from Truly Victorian (
available here) that I used. It's supposedly simple. I wouldn't know because I decided to add a bunch of lace to it (lace I got for free from my neighbor) and then, in parts where the lace wasn't laying flat, I decided to add random beads that I had just lying around to tack the lace down. I'm perhaps close to being done (assuming I don't add MORE stuff to it), and have 140 beads to sew on. Then, I'll take a picture of that too. So expect pics sometime this weekend. XD
I got the materials for the costume skit that I want to do with my bro. Now... I just need to figure out what I'm doing. :P I actually REALLY need some headforms to use to make things on, which brings me to something I found and will be using (since wooden head forms of accurate size are so freaking expensive and/or hard to find).
This page has instructions for making your own cloth headforms, which is definitely what I'll be doing. If I use the right material and stuff them properly, this could really work. I think Staples allows for legal-size printing with resizing options for fairly cheap, so I'll be hitting them after work.
Now, I'm off to seminar and home. I've actually been exhausted today (guess less than 4 hours of sleep doesn't work), so I'll probably sleep when I get home, but then onwards to finishing the petticoat and making some head forms!
