It's cold outside, and very clear, before the dawn. The stars are very bright above, in the deep blue firmaments, and it's almost enough to make one forget that a doorway away, you can see it all ending.
Almost.
Voids and endings are things that are never far from Axel's mind, and for good reason, but that, hopefully, will be changing.

A faint sound of panting can be heard, but aside from that, for the moment, there is silence.
And then Axel's being helped back up, and on his face, there's a faint, but very very real, smile.

She had heard what was going on, but battle has taught her that everyone has a place in it, and the fiery lacework of the barrier around them is hers.
As soon as she sees Axel helped up, though, the fire lace abruptly drops. In fact, Mia takes a moment bent over, catching her breath. She's exhausted.
But when she looks up and sees his smile, she can't help but smile brightly back.

She takes a few slow steps towards him, willing herself not to fall over. On the way, she takes what looks to be a light blue marble and pops it into her mouth. It'll be enough to keep her standing and participating in some of the festivities, but she'll need a good long rest afterward.
Which she'll get in another place, but that's another story.
"All right?"

Rather abruptly, she's getting a HUG.

"I take it it was all worth it, then."

There's more giggling when Yrael gets hugged.
She'll go and get Axel's present in a moment, but she's almost overwhelmed with laughter.

Then he grins, laughing, and hugs back just as enthusiastically.

"You used up a lot of magic, didn't you?"

She didn't want to risk a thing.
"A good night's rest and some good food and I'll be fine, though I should probably hold off on the magic as long as I can."
She doesn't yet know that she's going to need it tomorrow.
"Here. I got you something."

She doesn't know if he'll get where it's from, but that doesn't really matter.
Mia hands him the box, and inside is a little watch shaped like a heart, just like the Tin Man's from The Wizard of Oz.
"I hope you like it. I'll have Christmas presents for you in a little while, too."
But first she has to call in a favor.

And then gives Mia another hug. The watch vanishes into one of the safe spots in his pocket.
