THIS IS A KPOP CONCERT ETIQUETTE POST

AKA HOW NOT TO BE THE JERK AT THE CONCERT

So, as you know, I am immensely so ever so EXCITED for SM Town LA. It's really the first time such a large group of artists that I love have joined together for a concert on the same continent that I am on. I CAN'T WAIT!! That being, since this is the first time the entire current roster of SM artists are coming, there will undoubtedly be a lot of fans that really only care for 1 or 2 groups. Many will be unfamiliar with certain artists or just plain don't care for others.

That is okay, you don't have to like everybody. It's okay to have favorites.

This is not a classical music concert where there is strict etiquette rules or like an English tea party, but it's still nice to follow general conventions for politeness and a few extra things that make a kpop concert a kpop concert.  Also, a small amount of overly excitable Kpop fans have had a history of becoming very possessive and may get offended easily. It's best to not anger them.

Thus, a small set of rules to remember just to maintain the peace:
  1. Please be respectful. These artists have practiced hours for this event. Even if you don't like them, or care for that matter, it's still nice to pay attention to them when they perform. Perhaps you can find something you like about them!
It's very rude to be doing something else when someone is performing--like reading a book or playing on a portable game system.
  2. In addition to being respectful, please stay in your seats for the concerts--don't take a walk because you're bored that Trax or SHINee is on stage. Unless you require a medic, have a crying child, need to go to the bathroom, need snacks or have an urgent phone call, stay in your seats.
  3. Please do not boo or throw objects that may injure anyone. This should be common sense, but sometimes people tend to lose their cool when the object of their affections are about 20 feet away from them. Please be friendly and supportive, follow along with the fan chants, it can be fun.
  4. No black oceans. A lot of the forums are distributing glow sticks for the event. To support the person/group on stage, fans wave glow sticks, even if it's a pink SNSD glow stick and Super Junior is on the stage.  However, there are plans for events where only glow sticks of a certain color are being displayed (Red for Changmin and Yunho). Please use your judgment in turning off the glow sticks, don't be a jerk and boycott anyone...please.
  5. Please don't talk trash about the artists. You don't know who you will be sitting by, if they are a hardcore fan or not. I rather not have my concert experience marred by the concert halting to sort out fan fighting :P
  6. No vandalism! If there are fan banners hung in your area, or if someone has some elaborate display of affection for Amber or  Taemin or anyone, please don't mess with it. There have been reports of fans fighting because someone tore the banners for X in a fit of hatred. Writing "YOU SUCK" will not benefit you in any way shape or form.
  7. Please don't jump on the stage. That is just embarrassing and security will tackle you.
  8. Staples has a strict camera policy. No SLR cameras or cameras with lenses that extend 3.5 inches (or basically the length of a credit card) are allowed. Check with Staples Center (1-213-742-7326) for anything else like LED lights and fan banners, just in case.
  9. Please be friendly, supportive and remember to have fun!
Let me know if I am forgetting something~
