My brother has horrible taste in girls. I cry in the corner
He likes Hannah Montana, aka Miley Cyrus aka the girl who's songs always play at work and drive me crazy.
I am not an anti-fan nor a person who finds entertainment researching why someone sucks I don't have the time to. But seriously, this girl has put me the closest to ever being an anti. I've dealt with his crushes in the past (Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen Twins, and Hilary Duff) with mixed reactions (Lohan...was only cute as a kid. She screwed up her life, drugs wtf). But I never have been so...disgusted with is choice of gal this time around.
It's odd, I never even heard, nor cared about this girl until the beginning of summer when my ex-roommate showed me the Hannah Montana show. I told my brother how the show rotted my brain and I guess he watched it because he told me the next day that he had a crush on her. I was like "er...okay whatever' but in those past couple of days, he kept on spamming me with shows and new articles about her, which I didn't really read but I skimmed some which made me dislike her.
First off, the show is....mind numbing. Really. I sat through an entire episode with my roommate and I seriously wanted to slap her character upside the head. The basis of the show is how an "ordinary" girl is secretly a superstar when she puts on a blonde wig. Thus she gets the "Best of Both Worlds", superstar treatment and privacy. Wow, amazing storyline. A gal deceives her fans so she can get what she wants out of live. Greaatt message there disney *thumbs up* The synopsis of the episode was that she wanted someone to drive her to a fashion show but her father wasn't able to due to him being sick. So she whines and throws a tantrum until her father makes her older brother drive her, making him give up whatever he had plans for that night. This happens several times in the episode before her brother calls her selfish and tells her to think of others which she unhappily does. In the end she learns that she was a brat and decides to better herself, at the fashion show. Have I mentioned that she greatly overacts? *facepalms*
Second, the music. Since this show is about a girl who thinks she's a singer, there must be music. Thus, she performs all her songs on the show and now is releasing her own stuff. Her music is the standard poppy, teenager music, yet she proclaims she's a rock star. Which makes me laugh inwardly because rock stars obviously dress cutesy. Anyways, her music is really standard. I do admit, she has catchy beats, but the lyrics are mediocre angsty teenager at best:
You're friends, they're jerks
When you act like them, just know it hurts
I wanna be with the one I know
And the 7th thing I hate the most that you do
You make me love you
And her voice...oh good lord. I know she was trained as a country singer (Achy Breaky heart man is her father!) but seriously, her voice is not one for a teenager. She sounds like she has some sort of voice cancer. And when she's live it's worse, she croaks, cracks, and warbels. *cringes* But that should be fine, she's almost never live...Her songs aren't that hard to sing. Oh my goodness dancing, Cyrus should learn how to dance. Seizuring on stage isn't dancing unless you're Gackt XD Goodness, this was my impression of this perf: "angry!stomping seizure dance! Image: initially she was marketed as an innocent girl who suddenly became famous. Okay nothing wrong with that. So months roll by and she still promotes the image....and then she starts fooling around with a camera in her spare time and takes pictures of herself flashing her bra, and another draped over some random boy showing skin. Good going. Parents are in an uproar about them. She apologizes and is 'embarassed by the pictures and feels so bad for letting her fans down and didn't know better'. parents forgive her and then she does it again but this time she's in a bikini or completely in her underwear. You see a nipple people through that little cotton bra people. D: Parents go crazy, she gets embarassed and apologizes again and things go back to normal....again. And then like...three months ago she takes a photoshoot where she is first draped over her fathers lap and then one with a blanket wrapped around her top. And...the rest of the pattern continues. But by the time I read all this (from one news article to boot) I'm just thinking "my god, if you want to be sexy then take responsibility from the press and tell them that you are growing up. Don't just apologize and then wait for it to cool off, DO SOMETHING. THINK OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR CRIKES SAKE. If you want the sexy image, go for it. i don't care. if you want to be virginal, actually take more age appropriate stuff. Your fans are 10 year old girls, THINK. And this girl wears a chasity ring. Sure Chasity = No sex before getting married, but pictures of yourself in your underwear is A-OK. :D Just google miley cyrus, you'll find underwear and jailbait pictures. So the lowdown on why this girl makes me cringe:
she doesn't take responsibilities for her actions, can't sing (anything live shows her skills), act (facial expressions for the lose), nor dance (god she looks like she's having a seizure on stage, check out her american idol perf, wtf), she promotes innocence and chasity rings and then posts soft pornographic images of herself online.
A lot of people could say I'm being mean to her and that I'm picking on a defenseless young girl. Oh please. Part of being a celebrity is enduring criticism from people and learning how to defend yourself. You take in stride. Miley mentions several times that she wants to be like Madonna. But she has to learn how to deal with crap and using it to her advantage. Madonna has made a lot of screwups in the past (oh her sex book thing) but she just shook it off and went to do something else. She didn't apologize beyond the "i'm sorry if you guys were offended" and made another hit selling album. she didn't go into hiding or told magazines that she cried because of it. Heck Madonna danced and sung better at her age.
I'm not trying to be mean towards her. I'm just really critical of singers and entertainers. I wish her the best of luck on her career and I hope she finds more success, it's just that she really needs to learn from her mistakes and actually think before she acts. And if you can't take the heat, then either learn how or quit. Even the singers I like I am critical towards. They aren't perfect, but they at least learn what to do and what not. The I'm young and naive card doesn't work either, there are singers that are younger than she is and don't make as many mistakes. I respect that she has put in a lot of work and time to get where she is now (because all those bloody episodes don't tape by themselves). And I like how she does charity work and stuff but many celebrities also do that. Why is she so special to get millions of dollars of sales and a bunch of adoring fangirls? I don't know.
