Mmmm... Tomatoes!

In the ongoing tradition of apparently writing about nothing other than growing tomatoes...

Last night when I got home, it was just after dusk. But I could see it across my (freshly mowed, thanks to my awesome neighbor)yard. Red. I reached under the plant which is now about five feet tall and pulled the tomato off the vine. I took it inside and examined it, looked at the skin which was stretched taut trying to hold all the sweet fruit and juice inside. There was a little tiny hole at the base of it and a tiny bit of liquid was seeping out. I dipped my finger to it and tasted it and dear god. It was sweeter than any tomato I've ever even dreamt of. The taste was completely foreign to me. It was simply awe-striking. For someone born and raised in a city who's never grown food or really been to farms and stuff, this act of planting, tending and harvesting has been scientific and spiritual, nurturing and magical.

Lots of other stuff's been going on too, but I only really get the urge to write about my tomatoes.
